There’s a long history of Atlas games to pull from.

On the surface, it looks like a cute nod to a couple of racers. However, after some digging, a Twitter user has found that the links may run much deeper than those just on the surface.

On Twitter, user ScrambledFaz shared eight different Metaphor: ReFantazio x Formula 1 links.

Alongside the aforementioned Hulkenberg and Strohl, ScrambledFaz gained access to many of Atlus’ internal names for Metaphor’s characters and found the links run way deeper than we initially thought.

Heismay, everybody’s favorite member of the Euigeif tribe, had the internal name of Sirotkin, referencing racer Sergey Sirotkin. Igniter shop owner Brigitta Lycaon’s internal name was Bottas, a nod to Finnish racer, Valtteri Bottas.

Alongside those, Louis had the internal name Senna for Ayrton Senna, Glodell had Grosjean for Romain Grosjean, and Batlin, the Cryer, had the name Button, a nod to Jenson Button.

A slightly more tenuous link was Junah, who had the internal names Junus and Juju. Juju could be referencing Juju Noda, an 18-year-old Japanese driver who competes in the Super Formula Championship, which, of course, isn’t Formula 1. However, her father, Hideki Noda briefly raced in Formula 1 in 1994. It’s tenuous, but it’s another link.

One which was missing from ScrambledFaz’s initial tweet was regarding Alonzo, Metaphor’s mysterious scam artist. Going by the previous pattern, his name is likely a reference to former Formula 1 champion, Fernando Alonso, who still races today.

With so many links, and the sponsorship of an F1 car, it’s clear that somebody on the Atlus team is very much into their racing.
