Warzone Purgatory mode explained – Everything to know about The Haunting LTM

Rebirth Island Warzone Prison POI

Warzone Season 6 overhauls Rebirth Island for The Haunting event, bringing the brand-new Purgatory mode.

Rebirth’s Hellspawn variant has been described as a “terrifying reimagining” of the fan-favorite Resurgence map, with tentacles slithering across the ground, ominous shadows, and fleshy growths on the walls.

Alongside Zombie Royale, this horror-themed map will be the playground for Warzone’s Purgatory mode, so here’s everything you need to know about the LTM.

What is Purgatory mode in Warzone?

Warzone’s Purgatory mode is a squad-based mode on Rebirth Island’s Hellspwan variant with several different mechanics that completely shake up how the battle royale is played. It will be available at Warzone Season 6’s launch on September 18.

Instead of typical BR or Resurgence gameplay, Purgatory gives players constant access to their loadout and infinite respawns. Instead of being the last team standing, teams can win a “victory condition” by eliminating enemies and commending other players.

How long these matches will last hasn’t been revealed yet, but the devs said players can “complete objectives at their own pace” so it should be longer than a regular match.

Warzone Purgatory mode mechanics

  • Powerups: The Purgatory mode includes “powerful Weapon Blueprints and plentiful Killstreaks,” as well as the super weapons from the Arcade mode and Mutation’s abilities.
  • Portals: Portals can be found around the map, transporting to you other locations.
  • Flying Shipment: Shipment flies over the map and can be visited through parachutes, helicopters, and Portals.
  • Safe Zone: Players can visit the Safe Zone where they can’t deal or receive damage. Here, you’ll be in a third-person perspective.
  • Torment Level: Killing enemies increases your Torment Level and the higher it is, the more XP you’ll earn. However, it will also increase your visibility on the minimap so you’ll become a bigger target.
  • Scare Packages: These Halloween care packages will drop around the map, providing powerful loot but also “some unexpected side effects.”
  • Terriball: Spawning in ground lost and in Scare Packages, Terriballs can be shot, meleed, or kicked at enemy Operators, and they’ll one-shot whoever they hit.

You can customize your loadout and commend other players while inside the Safe Zone to earn XP and earn the victory condition.

Warzone Season 6 will be the final major update before Black Ops 6 arrives on October 25, but rest assured, the skins and rewards you unlock will carry forward to the next era of the battle royale.
