NetEase Games has started taking strict actions against datamining activities surrounding its new sci-fi RPG shooter, Destiny: Rising, which was released this August. Following various leaks that surfaced online, the devs have reportedly issued DMCA takedowns to online communities.
NetEase Games targets forums and Discord communities on asset extraction
According to a recent report by The Game Post, NetEase Games is now issuing DMCA notices to forums and Discord servers that’ve shared decrypted materials from Destiny: Rising. Amid this, Destiny Model Rips discord server recently confirmed it would no longer allow any posts involving game assets or extraction tools.
Just to clarify, the takedown itself was issued to ResHax.com, a forum known for hosting discussions about decrypting the game’s resource files. A mod from the server explained that NetEase’s legal team contacted this forum to remove posts containing decryption methods and already extracted materials like models, textures, and audio.
It looks like recent leaks have pushed them to act now
In a statement, NetEase wrote, “We recently discovered that your website, ResHax.com, hosts posts that disclose methods to decrypt our game’s encrypted resource package,” and added that their resources are “encrypted precisely to prevent unauthorized extraction and use.“
They also stated that such content exposes confidential resources and causes “substantial harm to our legitimate interests.” Now I’m team NetEase on this, as I was for Kuro Games too, regarding Wuthering Waves leaks. While some leaks can generate hype, it’s still not the right way.
They should try to avoid future leaks, as several leaks revealed new characters, like Helhest, which turned out to be accurate, and the datamined leak further revealed three more: Jaren Ward, Maru, and Rossi-11.
