Following the success of last year’s Icons Match in Seoul, EA’s FC Mobile recently hosted a friendly charity match in the Seoul World Cup Stadium, South Korea. Together with Nexon’s EA Sports FC Online, the fan-favorite PC-exclusive counterpart of FC 25 global, FC Mobile has organized this year’s Icons Match, a rematch involving the game’s Icons and Heroes.
The Icons Rematch, as it’s termed, was organized this weekend of September 14th, involving a football match involving eminent professionals, including Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba, Rio Ferdinand, Carles Puyol, Ronaldinho, Steven Gerrard, etc. The match is organized by Shoot for Love, a campaign that supports children suffering from leukemia and cancer.

Shield United edged past FC Spear in the Icons Match with a narrow win
Trying to answer football’s age-old question of “Attack vs Defense“, retired professionals who dominated at the highest stage went against each other in a mega showdown. The two teams, FC Spear, involving 11 lethal attackers, and Shield United, comprising 11 of the world’s best defenders, were at loggerheads with each other for a full 90-minute match for the ultimate bragging rights.
Despite being friendly, the teams boasted some serious talents in their ranks, with multiple Ballon d’Or and Champions League winners for both teams. Managed by the legendary French manager Arsène Wenger, the FC Spear team boasted some serious names, including Drogba, Park, Henry, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Gerrard, Bale, Rooney, Hazard, Pires, Buffon, etc
On the other hand, Shield United, coached by former Spanish manager Rafael Benítez, fielded the likes of Ferdinand, Puyol, Campbell, Marchisio, Vidic, Carrick, Nesta, Maicon, Makélélé, Cole, and Casillas, among others. And as it was similar to last year, the defenders, ie, Shield United, had the final say as they defeated FC Spear 2-1, with Rooney, Maicon, and Park Chu-young featuring on the scoresheet.
The match was a grand success with fans filling the stadium and a million more joining from various livestreams. Personally, for me, it was a nostalgic ride watching my childhood heroes go against each other while displaying their class.
