

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an open-world RPG from Netmarble. The game was announced back in November 2022 and released recently in May 2025. It features a vast, open-world map of Westeroes, filled with tension and adventure. I’ve been playing it for a long time, and what I liked is that you can build your class with different skills and traits. And to help you with the trait system in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, I made this guide.

List of Traits and how to use them for each Class in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad
The Trait Tree is a system used to enhance characters and formulate battle styles. You can access the trait tree from the Menu, and there are three options: Trait Tree, Reset, and All effects. The first one is the trait system that we will learn more about. For now, remember that you can lower an activated trait level or deactivate a trait and pick a new one.
You can also reset the current trait categories from the Reset option. You won’t be charged anything for descending a trait level, as it depends on your character’s progression. And the last option is to view stats sorted by your current trait. As each character has three basic skills, the trait tree has three types of traits. They are:
This is mainly to enhance your capabilities. The first category, attack, does exactly what it reads. You will always want to maintain a balance in your trait based on how you’re going to play. Based on your strategy and playstyle, you will choose which to unlock and upgrade first.
Another thing I would like to mention is that you will see a node after some initial traits. Unlocking the node will also unlock the higher traits. So, you should unlock the trait that unlocks the node first (this can be like: any basic/lower trait will unlock each node), and then move to the next one.
Knight
If you’re playing Knight, you know that attacking is the best defense for you. You can throw the regular enemies just like a cloud after upgrading the primary trait you need. Continuous attacks, along with parry, can bring you on top in each fight.

First, check your character stats and see which ones need to be upgraded. As night needs more attack power, the ideal approach should be centered on:
- Attack: Attack Power Increase> Mighty Strike Power Damage Increase> Lethal Strike> Max Rage Increase> Attack Power Increase> Basic Skill Proficiency> Deadly Combo> Keen Gage> Max Rage Increase> Critical Strike Rate> Seasoned Strike.
- Defense: Max HP Increase> Defense Increase> Parry> Parrying Proficiency> Evasion Charges Increase> Damage Taken Reduction> Evasion Charges Increase.
- Support: Duration of Effects From Consumables> Rage Gain Increases> Max Rage Increase> Heat of Rage> Mount Stamina Increase> Ranged Attack Damage Increase> Skill Cooldown Reduction> Max Rage Increase.
Note that the support’s stat node is based on Rage gain, as I don’t like using bolts with Knight. You can choose otherwise. And though I mentioned a lot of traits in each category, you probably won’t be able to unlock them, as it is hard to get trait points.
Assassin
You know it, sneaky and relies on sharp attacks. So, I would keep the Defense Trait the same as Knight, as it doesn’t need much defense being a stealthy. But Assassin must use critical strike often, and this is what this character is best suitable for. The build would be:

- Attack: Critical Strike Damage Increase> Critical Strike Rate Increase> Mighty Strike Damage Increase> Lethal Strike> Max Rage Increase> Critical Strike Damage Increase> Critical Strike Rate Increase> Basic Skill Proficiency> Deadly Combo> Max Rage Increase> Critical Strike Damage Increase> Seasoned Strike.
- Support: HP Tincture Recovery Increase> Craft Throwing Dagger> Max Range Increase> Time to Strike Back> Mount Stamina Increase> Rage Gain Increase> Rage Consumption Decrease> Max Rage Increase.
Sellsword
Though we will use it as a tank, the defense needs to focus on the parry, which is also essential for the other two classes. We will build this class in a pure defense-oriented role and also try to keep a balance in other traits. Besides, taking much damage should be a concern.
But I would say that you’re very early in the game, and unlocking all the traits will take a huge amount of time. Here’s what you can choose for Sellsword:

- Attack: Rage Gain Increase> Attack Power Increase> Mighty Strike Damage Increase> Armor Crusher> Max Rage Increases> Attack Power Increase> Basic Skill Proficiency.
- Defense: Max HP Increase> Defense Increase> Parry> Parrying Proficiency> Evasion Charges Increase> Defense Increase> Evasion Charges Increase.
- Support: Rage Gain Increase> Max Rage Increase> Heat of Rage> Mount Stammina Increase.
I would say that, as the game lets you readjust and reset your traits, you should always check in a fight that if a trait is useful or not. Just a bit of experiment can save you from running after the wrong trait, or at least, those you don’t need at that moment.
