Crystal of Atlan is a Magipunk action MMORPG by Nuverse Games, packed with base classes, advanced classes, and even pets. While adorable, these pets can also battle alongside you and provide passive buffs. In this guide, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Pets, from how they work to how to unlock and level them up effectively.

Pets in Crystal of Atlan: An Overview

Like the five base classes and 11 advanced classes, Pets are equally important in the game, providing you with support and helpful boosts during your battles in dungeons. Whether you’re clearing waves of enemies, battling bosses, or just exploring, these adorable creatures stay right by your side.

The best part is that you can equip two pets at once, with each one offering different passive buffs and skills. Moreover, you can freely switch between them based on your needs, whether you require extra power or healing. Each pet provides two kinds of support: passive stat boosts and active battle skills.

The passive boost is always active, whether you’re taking part in combat or not. These boosts include added Strength, Intelligence, and Resistance. In contrast, the active skills appear like your combat skills. You can use them in battle like your class’s normal skills, like throwing Jackalope’s Carrot bomb.

How to get Pets in Crystal of Atlan

You’ll unlock your first pet, the Assistant Jackalope, during Chapter 2, when you visit Glenn’s Shop in Rhine City, after completing a specific task. You can obtain him after unlocking the pet system when you reach around level 26.

You can get the second pet, Shining Crystalfox, on Day 3 of the 7-day login rewards. There’s another version of Jackalope, called Polar Jackalope, which you can obtain by clearing Waves of Tempered Trials.

That said, you can also obtain other pets from various sources, like Brilliant Crystalfox from the Starlight Cruise gacha banner, Cowlboy from the advanced Battlepass, Adventure’s Manual, and Mysticat via the Cumulative Top-up rewards. You need to spend a massive $833.30 to obtain Mysticat, which is absurd.

How to upgrade your Pets in Crystal of Atlan

Now, after you’ve acquired your desired Pet, you’ll have to upgrade it to gain the full advantage of its skills and abilities. And, there are three main ways through which you can make your pet stronger: leveling them up, leveling up their abilities, and evolving them.

Leveling up Pets

The process to level them up is quite straightforward. So, to level up, say Shining Crystalfox, first head to the Upgrade tab in the Pet Menu. There, you can upgrade them, provided you’ve enough Gold, and either regular or advanced Experience Books. You can earn it via Adventure, Co-op battles, and more.

Upgrading Pet’s Abilities

You can also upgrade your pets’ abilities separately. Head to the Skills tab in the Pet Menu and choose which one you want to upgrade. For this, you need two types of Fruits: Ultimate Fruits for active abilities, and Talent Fruits for passive ones. You can earn it from Elite Adventure, Arena Shura Cup, and more.

Evolving Pets

Lastly, you can further evolve your pets to unlock stronger passive effects and also their passive skills. You’ll require the specific pet’s Heart, which you get by pulling its duplicate contract, to evolve it. Do note that a pet can be evolved up to three times, and once done, you can’t go back.

Best Pets for F2P gameplay in Crystal of Atlan

Like me, if you’re also following a free-to-play approach in CoA, there are a few reliable pets you can obtain without spending any money, and they’re strong too. Each pet has one active skill and three passive skills, so they’re really useful.

1. Shining Crystafox

First is definitely the Shining Crystalfox. Like I previously said, you get it as a Day 3 login reward, and it provides solid healing support. Its active skill, Healing Light, restores 10% of your HP plus a flat amount, which is very beneficial in solo PvE content.

Like other pets, it also comes with three useful passive skills. Fox Protection gives you a chance to heal whenever you cast a skill, Origin of Life slightly increases healing effects, and Gathering Assistant gives you a chance to get bonus products when gathering in combat areas.

2. Assistant Jackalope

Unlocked for free during Chapter 2, Assistant Jackalope is a solid offense-focused pet in CoA. Its active skill, Carrot Bomb, lets you deal AoE damage, leaving a burning field that damages your enemies over time.

Its passive skills include Scorching Blade, which imbues fire damage to your attacks, Prairie Fire, which increases your attack power against scorched enemies, and Crafting Assistant, which gives you a chance to get material refunds when crafting specific items.

For now, you can rotate between these two, or if you can save up a budget, you can unlock Cowlboy by purchasing the Adventure’s Manual, or wait for the next one. While the premium pets are stronger, I don’t think it’s worth spending that much money on pets when the class themselves are free in the game.
