Why the Compensation?
Players have been stuck by two main issues: event glitches and matchmaking errors. Bugs prevented reliable match entry and caused visual problems-overlapping sprays in matches and disappearing projectiles for certain Piper skins (like Calavera Piper when using the “Ambush” Star Power). To make up for the frustration, the developers gave everyone these Sushi Rolls “on the house.” This isn’t new, after fixing visual bugs on the Mega Buffet and Club screens, Brawl Stars also rewarded players with a free roll.
Alongside the free rolls, an update hit Android users (iOS update optional) to address those overlapping sprays and Piper skin glitches. But matchmaking troubles lingered: at 8:24 UTC the same day, the team tweeted they were aware of issues blocking match entry and might need maintenance. They also confirmed work on restoring the Daily Contest Leaderboard, which tracks points across three daily modes-crucial since only the top eight players earn rewards.
How to Claim Your Free Sushi Rolls in Brawl Stars
You can collect your free rolls through the in-game shop. These Sushi Rolls are part of Brawl Pass Season 38, which launched the Katana Kingdom event earlier this month. They’re the event’s currency: slice them open to earn rewards-everything from Wasabi Powers and Coins to Power Points, Credits, Brawlers, cosmetics, and exclusive Katana Kingdom skins.

What Are Sushi Rolls in Brawl Stars?
Sushi Rolls are at the heart of the Battle for Katana Kingdom event, which began early May 2025. These items start at Rare rarity (58% chance of yielding 1 reward) but can upgrade to Super Rare (37% chance for 2 rewards), Epic (3.3% chance for 4 rewards), or Mythic (1.7% chance for 8 rewards). Each Sushi Roll might drop rewards like Wasabi Powers, Coins, Power Points, Credits, Brawlers, cosmetics, and event-specific skins tied to the Katana Kingdom theme.
Players earn Sushi Rolls through Daily Wins, Samurai Smash (Chapter 1), Club Events (Chapter 2), Oni Hunt quests (Chapter 3), Daily Contests (Chapter 4), and through shop offers such as today’s free giveaway. When you open a Sushi Roll, it can even split into multiple pieces, granting extra rewards and filling up the Sushi Meter for bonus prizes.
