How to unlock Mortis for free with the Piñata Community May 2025 Event

Following the arrival of the ‘1st Anniversary’ update in Squad Busters, there have been many debates in the community regarding the ‘new’ look of the game. Still, that isn’t stopping the players from enjoying the latest Piñata Community event, which allows us to unlock the latest Squad Busters hero, Mortis, for free.

The event will be an 8-day Piñata Party, so if you’ve been eyeing Mortis and want to add this Bat-summoning hero to your squad, now’s your chance.

Understanding the Piñata Party Community Event in Squad Busters

Running for eight days starting May 23, 2025, this community celebration event features daily piñatas and special in-game challenges. Each day, five piñatas appear, one of which is golden and holds a higher chance of big rewards like Hero Points.

You team up with other players to bust open these piñatas, collecting valuable loot that includes Coins, Hero Points, and even Hero Mortis himself. You just need to join hands with the community and gather Piñata Sticks from matches to unlock milestone prizes for everyone.

The event also features a special Duos Mode called Piñata Party, where it’s easier to collect Piñata Sticks. These sticks contribute to a shared progress tracker that, when filled, grants milestone rewards like Chest Triplers, Coins, an exclusive Mortis Emote, and up to 500 Hero Points.

The milestone rewards for Piñata Sticks Collected are listed below:

• Milestone 1 – 3x Chest Triplers
• Milestone 2 – 10,000 Coins
• Milestone 3 – Mortis Emote
• Milestone 4 – 500 Hero Points

As per the calculations, you can earn up to 1300 Hero Points throughout the Event.

Hero Mortis in Squad Busters

Introduction and Abilities

Belonging to the Summoner class, Mortis summons Bats from defeated enemies and nearby Tombstones, and can unleash all his summoned units in a charging attack called Monster Charge. Every time his Bats deal damage, Mortis heals. So, the more Bats he controls, the deadlier he becomes.

Monster Charge (Power)

Every few seconds, Mortis can send all his summoned units charging forward. He also summons 3 additional Bats, which is starting with a max of 5, increasing to 7 later. When these Bats hit enemies, Mortis gets healed.

Tombstone (Trait)

Mortis has a unique connection with Tombstones. When he’s near one, he instantly summons a Bat from it. This trait not only adds to his swarm but also fuels his healing and the cooldown of his Monster Charge. Upgrades later increase both the size of his Bat army and the speed of his charge ability.

Turbo (Speed Boost + Attack)

Mortis’ Turbo gives him a huge speed boost and builds up a powerful dash. When you stop Turbo, it releases a large AoE attack that damages and knocks back enemies. As you upgrade him, Turbo recharges faster, and at level 3, he even starts with an extra one.

How to unlock Hero Mortis for free in Squad Busters

To get Hero Mortis, your best bet is to participate daily during the event. Break open piñatas every day for a chance to find him inside. Golden piñatas are particularly valuable, offering Hero Points and a higher drop chance for Mortis, especially as the event progresses.

If you’re unlucky on one day, don’t worry, new piñatas appear every day, giving you multiple chances. Additionally, by playing in the Piñata Party mode and collecting Piñata Sticks, you’ll help the whole community reach milestone goals.

The milestone rewards I listed above give everyone more items, increasing your chances of boosting Mortis once you unlock him.
