Fortnite mobile has come back to most regions now, so we should have a decently sized pool of players to matchmake with. But is Fortnite mobile cross platform? The Battle Royale has given players the ability to play with friends across platforms. But in some cases, it has been enforced cross platform play. With players unable to stay on their own platform, against opponents playing on much better hardware. So how does Fortnite Mobile cross platform play work?
Is Fortnite Mobile Cross Platform?
Fortnite Mobile has returned to iOS in the USA, and it has been available in regions like Brazil, and the EU for a while. Since that means more players are jumping in, they might wonder who they’re up against. Will it be other mobile players exclusively or just a selection of players from across Fortnite platforms?
Fortnite does have crossplay, so Fortnite mobile cross platform play works fine. You’ll be able to play with friends on PC, other consoles, and mobile. The big issue though, is if you can actually turn off Fortnite mobile cross platform play.
Can You Turn It Off?
Fortnite mobile can be played with better input devices and a good frame rate. But most players are using touch controls and running it on their normal mobile phone. However, Fortnite mobile doesn’t have its own lobby and servers. You can’t turn cross play off.
In past Fortnite seasons, Epic used to allow most players to turn crossplay off. So, they would be able to play with friends if they want to, but also able to stick to their own platform too. Since regions closed off Fortnite mobile, this changed. Players on mobile can’t turn off crossplay, Switch can’t either. Other consoles can though. The platforms that can do 120 FPS get their pick, but phones with touchscreens and the 30 FPS handheld gets forced into PC lobbies.
This is supposedly being done to help with queue times. Although, Fortnite has pretty much instant queue times for pubs thanks to games being full of bots. For whatever reason, Fortnite mobile players can’t turn off crossplay. There is skill-based matchmaking, but perform well and you’ll end up in PC lobbies.

Fortnite Mobile Includes High Performance Set-Ups
One thing to keep in mind with Fortnite mobile cross platform play is that it includes powerful devices too. When Fortnite esports tournaments used to be offered by Epic for each platform, mobile got dominated by iPad Pro users. These players look like a standard iPhone player, but they’re actually playing with a high frame rate and a closer experience to PC than anything else.
Even if you could turn off Fortnite mobile cross play, this would still be a big factor in matchmaking. Players should be kept with similar skill players, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re grinding on mobile.
