Square Enix and Tencent Games have announced a technical test for their upcoming MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World, on Android in China, starting from May 23, 2025. Based on the popular Final Fantasy IP, the game is now open for recruitment for this upcoming test, until May 22, 2025.
Officially licensed by Square Enix, the game is being developed by Tencent Games’ subsidiary Lightspeed Studios. The game was first announced back in August 2024, followed by a reveal trailer in November 202, and they opened pre-orders on iOS in China this April.

Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World is an officially licensed MMORPG set in the rich world of Eorzea. It’s a mobile adaptation of the classic PC title, that’s been live for 11 years. In this game, you play as the Warrior of Light, called by the Mothercrystal to battle the primals and save Eorzea from destruction.
While a Final Fantasy mobile title itself is exciting, what really has me looking forward to is the variety of playable races, each with distinct looks and lore, and 11 crafting and gathering classes. Moreover, at launch, you’ll be able to choose from 9 jobs, and with the Armoury system, you can switch jobs freely.
One more exciting thing beyond its intense battles is that you can dive into various other activities, like enjoying chocobo racing or the Triple Triad card game at the Gold Saucer. That said, I’m personally eager to build a cozy home, enjoy seasonal events, customize my avatar with various outfits, and more.

And the good news is, you can soon experience all of these and more, as Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World is gearing up for a technical test for Android in China. This confidential, limited deletion test will include paid content, and recruitment for the test is now open until May 22, 2025.

- Next, click on the recruitment questionnaire link in the notice.
- You need to log in using a QQ or WeChat account (Also to play the game).
- Now, fill out the questionnaire with accurate details.
- Tap submit, and you’re done.
If you’re selected, you’ll receive the confirmation and download link via SMS or email on May 22. You can also qualification status on the official website on May 22, when the qualification enquiry page goes live. While it’s not a global launch, I’m excited to see what the devs are cooking for us for this mobile version.
