COD Warzone Mobile is officially winding down, set to be discontinued on May 18, 2025. Activision has announced that the game will be pulled from the respective App Stores and will no longer receive seasonal content or gameplay updates.
Players with Warzone Mobile installed will retain access with cross-progression
Announcing the update on their official social channels, they stated that the decision was made after “careful consideration of various factors” and acknowledged that “it unfortunately has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences.”
Once removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store, new players won’t be able to download it. However, those who already have the game installed before May 19th can still play online and use their existing content, thanks to cross-progression and servers with matchmaking for online play.
Starting today, you can no longer spend real money in the game. COD Points already owned can still be used, but no new purchases are allowed. Social features will also be retired. Although many might have been caught by surprise, a few of us actually saw this coming.
The decision comes after months of silence, with no major updates and a shrinking player base. For now, Activision is encouraging Warzone Mobile players to try Call of Duty: Mobile after being discontinued, offering some rewards to help ease the move. You can find the complete FAQ here.
The game never took off since its launch and was plagued with problems
If you have been at least following their social media, if not for the game, it was dead since the start of the year. Season updates were practically nonexistent, there were no active promotions, and no events to keep the community engaged.
Many had been holding out hope for a supposedly “major” update, but the one that finally dropped on May 7 turned out to be a disaster. Coming almost a month after complete inactivity, it left even loyal fans questioning the direction of the game.
Still, ever since its launch last year, it is safe to say the game never “took off”. From attracting criticism from competition to making questionable decisions like dropping support for many devices to “raise its performance standards”, it was never a fan favourite. Well, surely, a lesson to learn.
