How to buy a house in Oblivion Remastered
You can get a house in Oblivion Remastered either by purchasing one from a specific NPC (generally a Count) or as a quest reward.
Houses are available all over Cyrodiil, and you can effectively own as many as you like. You can’t rent them out, however, and items kept in one aren’t magically available in another.
To buy a house in Oblivion, you first need to meet the disposition requirements of its leaseholder.
Owner | Location | Cost |
Vinicia Melissaeia | Imperial City – Waterfront District | 2,000 |
Counter Marius Caro | Leyawiin – East part of town | 7,000 |
Count Regulus Terenitus | Bravil – South part of town | 4,000 |
Velwyn Benirus | Anvil – The dilapidated house | 5,000 |
Countess Narina Carvain | Bruma – Right of the East gate | 10,000 |
Count Andel Indarys | Cheydinhal – Across from the Mages Guild | 15,000 |
Countess Arriana Valga | Chorrol – By the Mages Guild | 20,000 |
Shum gro-Yarug | Skingrad – Northeast part of town | 25,000 |
These houses can be upgraded (for an additional cost) by speaking to most of the owners of the respective town or city’s Trade Goods store.
Inquiring about a house begins the necessary quest for each. You’ll own your home as soon as you pay for it, but each quest involves upgrading said home, and cannot be completed until you do so.
Can you get a free house in Oblivion Remastered?
Though they won’t act as houses you can fast travel to, you can gain access to a free bed and permanent storage options by completing the following quests:.
Aleswell Inn
Complete the quest ‘Zero Visibility’ from Diram Serethi in Aleswell or Malene at Roxey Inn.
Francois Motierre’s home
You can gain easy access to Francois’ house by completing the fifth quest for the Dark Brotherhood.
Summitmist Manor
Like Francois’ house, you can access this one after completing the ‘Whodunit?’ quest for the Dark Brotherhood.
Thieves Guildmaster’s Quarters
Complete the quest ‘The Ultimate Heist’ for the Thieves Guild to unlock access to this space via Dareloth’s house.
Weynon Priory
Completing the early quest ‘Deliver the Amulet’ unlocks the ability to use Jauffre’s check in Weynon House as a place to put your own items. There’s also a free bed you can sleep in elsewhere in the house, making it essentially a quest-related house.
Weynon Lodge is another usable space, but easy access depends on the time of day.
White Stallion Lodge
Speaking to Count Marius Caro in Leyawiin begins a quest that eventually awards the key to White Stallion Lodge.
If you want to live the life of a squatter, you can sleep in Vinicia Melissaeia’s Imperial City shack without paying for it. You’ll just have to put up with two other squatters.
What is a house for in Oblivion Remastered?
Owning a house in Oblivion doesn’t serve much of a purpose beyond basic roleplaying or as a free bed that’s permanently marked on your map for easy reference.
Owning a bunch around the world will make it easy to take a break and level up as you go about your adventures, and can act as a network of fast travel points useful for everyone (especially late-stage Vampires) but that’s about it.
As items aren’t shared across them, and there’s no way to log the items you put in each house, they’re a simple means of storing weapons, armor, produce, and anything else you don’t need clogging your inventory.
Now that you have a place to call home, give Oblivion Remastered a rest so that you can check out the best RPGs on PC right now. And if there’s no room in your life for another paid title so soon, the best free PC games can help keep your bank balance from crying out in pain.
