According to Steam Charts , it is currently the fourth most-played game on the platform, beating out Marvel Rivals , Banana , and Path of Exile 2. It’s an idle game that is certainly taking the gaming community by storm, but what exactly is going on with Bongo Cat?

As stated above, Bongo Cat is an idle game, meaning you don’t have to do much; it’ll do it for you! The objective of the game is simple: you’ll have your own Cat that you can customize, making it feel personal to you. When you type, click, or do any action, the Cat will smash their paws onto your taskbar. The more you do, the more your Cat will punch! And by doing that, you’ll earn hats for your Cat! These vary in rarity, which is why the game has become so popular, as it gives players something to work towards, being one of the first players to get a Legendary hat. Bear in mind, these statistics are likely to change as the game progresses and patches are introduced. As you can see, the common and uncommon hats aren’t worth much value, but as you progress and play more, you increase the chance of getting better loot. Like in Banana, these hats have value, real-life value to be exact, as they can be sold on the Steam marketplace. At the time of writing this article, the highest item is going for around £10. Not the same type of values we’ve been seeing in Banana, but earning money for simply typing away isn’t a bad deal!

Now, this isn’t a full justification as to why this game has gotten so popular over the recent days. But you can start to paint the picture as to why. It’s a free-to-play game that allows you to potentially add a small chunk of change to your Steam wallet. All you have to do is go about your day as normal, have Bongo Cat running in the background, and hope that you earn one of the rarer hats. Then when you’re done for the day, whack them on the marketplace and make some solid money!
