What is Brawl in League of Legends?
Brawl is a low-strategy, high-action mode that focuses on kills and clearing minions, eliminating some of the more complex aspects, such as turrets and neutral objectives. The two teams will face each other in a single lane, similar to what ARAM is. The main difference, however, is that players will be able to freely choose their champions and the ultimate goal is to reduce the opponent’s health bar and not destroy the enemy base.
With only one lane, the two teams will have to constantly fight on the map. There will be camps spawning on the flanks, granting extra buffs and gold that will enable more champions and playstyles. It’s essentially deathmatch, a game mode famous in FPS games like VALORANT, applied to League of Legends.
How does Brawl work?
Each team will start with a health bar of 250 points. Each takedown on an enemy champion will deal 5 damage. If the enemy team is not low on health, takedowns on minions will also deal 1 damage. Pushing the minions into the enemy’s Bandle Portal will also deal 1 damage each. Whoever gets the opponent’s health bar to 0 first wins.
Why did Riot Games make Brawl?
League of Legends has had a big issue since its creation, and that is the steep learning curve it requires to become at least somewhat decent at the game. Whether it’s champion mechanics or learning the several strategic aspects of the game, it is definitely an overwhelming experience for a newcomer, especially considering the tutorial only covers a tiny portion of the game’s complexity.

For those who see League of Legends only as a pastime, it can be discouraging. The addition of Brawl is supposed to solve this issue: bringing a game mode where you remove specific aspects of the game and focus on just a few things, allowing players to practice their skills and being able to enjoy the game at the same time without being overwhelmed. Unlike ARAM, you get to choose the champions you want to play, allowing you to fully master any given character.
Brawl release date in League of Legends
Brawl in League of Legends goes live in Patch 25.10 on May 14, 2025. The game mode will be live on the PBE servers starting on April 29.
When will the Brawl game mode end?
According to Riot Cadmus, the Brawl game mode will last until the launch of Patch 25.13, which means a total of three patch cycles. Therefore, according to the official patch schedule, Brawl will end on June 25.
Will Brawl have bans?
Riot Phlox confirmed the game mode will not have bans, as they wanted players to get into games faster. “If 20% of your Brawl gametime is in lobby, it’s probably a bit tiring to play the mode, for example. That being said, he also stated there might be long term opportunity to figure out a way to give people bans, but they will have to evaluate the impact on queue times and player desire to play the game mode.
Will the game mode be permanent?
The game mode won’t be permanent for now. In a Q&A with the game dev team, Riot Cadmus said they will “monitor modes’ performances both relative to number of players as well as generally how happy it’s making all of you”. Riot’s main goal is to have a safer place for new players to play League and allow players of different skill levels to play together. If it performs relative to those outcomes, there might be a chance to see Brawl become permanent.
