Silent Hill f Has Good News for PS5 Pro Owners
Silent Hill f will be getting some upgrades on PS5 Pro, which could enhance graphical fidelity, FPS rates, and other performance traits.
Valve has released the results of its official testing of Silent Hill f on the Steam Deck, and has declared that the game is playable on the device. However, the catch is that it’s not considered to be ‘verified’ for Steam Deck, as there are caveats to getting the game to work on the device. Valve indicates that all functionality is available through the default controller configuration, and the game shows Steam Deck icons. However, the game has small text that may be difficult to read on the screen of the Steam Deck, and the game will require manual adjustments to the graphics settings in order to perform well on the device.
Will Silent Hill f Play Well on the Steam Deck?
While the Steam Deck may be able to play Silent Hill f, gamers shouldn’t expect dazzling visuals or frame rates. Given the fine print on the Steam Deck compatibility, it’s likely that players can expect an experience equivalent to – or even inferior to – what the minimum PC system requirements can deliver. On standard PCs, an Nvidia GTX 1070 is needed to get the game running at 720p at 30 frames per second. 720p may not look bad on the Steam Deck’s screen, but it may not be ideal for those who prefer playing on a Steam Deck connected to a high-resolution monitor or TV.
While the performance of Silent Hill f on the Steam Deck seems iffy at this time, it’s got a leg up on the Silent Hill 2 remake. While Silent Hill 2 released patches that helped to improve the Steam Deck experience, Valve still refers to the game as being unsupported on the device. Valve notes that the graphical settings for the game cannot be set in such a way that the game plays well on the Steam Deck. For Silent Hill f to already be in a playable state on the Steam Deck is already an improvement, and with no release date yet, there may still be time for Konami and NeoBards Entertainment to further optimize Silent Hill f.
