That’s the truth. Other than Henry, every single protagonist in the original four games is a traumatized, grief-stricken mess dealing with their own issues while trying not to die horribly. Then you have SH2, which does the exact same thing, but with the added bonus that James actually did something “bad,” so now he gets singled out like he’s some grand exception. As if the rest of the series wasn’t already about people drowning in guilt, loss, and psychological torment.

The Western Silent Hill games clearly got the memo too, since they all more or less copy that formula. Shattered Memories takes it a step further by making Harry’s death in SH3 another layer of guilt for Heather to carry around.

And if that somehow wasn’t enough, the modern teasers double down on it. The Short Message is literally about a traumatized, grief-stricken girl who kills herself and can’t escape the guilt that led her there. P.T.? Oh yeah, just another traumatized, grief-stricken guy dealing with his guilt for murdering his wife.

So even if we go with this dumb, shallow take that James is special because of his “sin,” Silent Hill has always been about people crushed under the weight of guilt and loss. Literally the vast majority of the series follows this theme, including a fucking playable teaser.
