Over the last few weeks, Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s competitive scene has gotten a lot more interesting. The release of Triumphant Light added some new cards, giving the meta one of its biggest shake-ups to date, and it was needed, given that the expansion also ushered in the game’s ranked battles.

While many of TCG Pocket’s meta cards come from the release of new expansions, occasionally, new events add some really competitive cards. It happened with a Cresselia ex promo that saw play for a while, and now, the new Pawmot Drop event has added five new promo cards for players to collect, one of which seems meta-ready — and it’s not the featured Pokemon.
Floatzel Is The Real Star Of Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s Pawmot Drop Event
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Pawmot Drop event clearly focuses on the named Pokemon. You have to beat decks containing the card, and in doing so, you’ll have a chance to get it and its cute artwork. Competitively, though, it’s justfine.
It deals 70 damage off two Lightning energies, which isn’t bad, and its Counterattack ability, which deals 20 damage to any active Pokemon that damages it, is nifty, but the fact that it’s a stage two Pokemon slows things down. Instead, the real winner from the event is Floatzel.
Floatzel is a stage one Pokemon with a very un-Pokemon-like move, Attack the Wound. It deals 10 damage from one energy, however, if the Pokemon it’s attacking already has damage on it, it deals an extra 60 damage.
TCG Pocket now has a bunch of cards that deal damage to multiple opposition Pokemon and that pair well with Floatzel. Wugtrio ex, although beholden to RNG, deals three lots of 50 damage, Greninja can deal 20 damage to any Pokemon it chooses, and Articuno deals 10 damage to each of the opponents’ benched Pokemon. Floatzel acts as a perfect closer with all of these cards.
It’s good to see Pokemon TCG Pocket adding meta-relevant cards mid-expansion,
and it certainly helps to keep things fresh. Here’s hoping for more of it in the future.
