Fortnite’s latest season is kind of dominated by the exotics added mid-season, and one in particular is absolutely OP, the Rift Launcher. It’s by far one of the most powerful mobility tools ever added, and even has some crazy offensive potential too. Plus, it is absolutely one-of-a-kind. Only a single player can get it. Given that this is one of the most overpowered items we’ve ever seen, how can you get the Rift Launcher in Fortnite regularly?
The Rift Launcher’s home is pretty standard, the Black Market where all the exotics this season are located. However, actually getting your hands on it is a little difficult. Epic’s made some changes to make them a bit more unpredictable. Thanks to the Outlaw Keycard, players rarely land at vaults anymore. There’s much quicker ways to get the Exotics. How can you get the Rift launcher regularly and why is it such an important item?
How to Get the Rift Launcher in Fortnite
The Rift Launcher in Fortnite is by far one of the best Fortnite weapons. Where is it in-game though?
Its actual location is basic. It’s the Black Market. It used to be near Masked Meadows. However, that’s changed with the most recent update.
Now, the Exotics are all randomised. Players won’t be able to just drop on their favourite and expect it to have what they want. They’ll need to search.

You could find it there, but you could also find it in a different Black Market. At the beginning of this season this would make it simple. You drop into Masked Meadows, take out the vault as quick as possible, grab the Dill Bits, head to the Black Market. Being the closest Vault, that would always be the quickest route. But with the changes of the Outlaw Keycard, it’s different. Now, it’s random and you get Dill Bits in spawn.
So, players don’t have to do a vault first. They can get a Dill Bit right off spawn. Essentially, all players need to do is be the first one to the Black Market. Preferably by dropping right on top of it. This is the route:
- Drop into the Black Market – Using whatever the best drop route from the bus is. That can be going through the stairs in the building above, or by going through the tunnel back entrance.
- Head immediately for the Back Rooms

- Then the Outlaw Chest
- Open it Up – Since you’ve moved through the Outlaw Keycard quests, you’ll get a Dill Bit directly from the chest
- If it spawned, take it from there
- If not, you’ll have to check some other Black Markets.
That’s the end of it, how to get the Rift Launcher in Fortnite. The big problem in Fortnite to get the Rift Launcher right now though, is that everyone wants it.
Fighting Off Half the Lobby
Any particularly overpowered piece of loot in Fortnite will bring in a lot of players. There’s a lot of bots in standard Fortnite lobbies, but real players will gravitate towards the best items. That means you might have some competition.
Off spawn, you can expect some fights to get to the Rift launcher. Now if you can manage to grab floor loot on the way, you’ll be able to kill them. If not, it’s a pickaxe fight. It just comes down to which route works better that exact game. It’s a little less busy now they’re random, but it’s still going to be a fight.
In most of these battles, it’s important to keep in mind how quick it is to open the chest, then grab the launcher. Which is an immediate get out of jail free car. Just rift yourself away. So, if you can take a few pickaxe swings to get the Rift Launcher, because you open the chest first, then this would definitely be worthwhile. Often it just comes down to optimal dropping in Fortnite and running though.
Using the Rift Launcher in Fortnite
Once you’ve got the Rift Launcher, you can be the most mobile player on the map. There’s a lot of room to play with it. It has a brief cooldown between rifts, but if you pull your glider early, it’s essentially the time it takes to re-charge.
It’s great for being mobile, chasing players, finding any fireight and jumping in. However, you can also use it offensively. Rifting other players and people, which is always fun. Especially, if you catch them in a car.
Then there’s the interaction with the new Mortal Kombat Mythic. Yank someone forward into a fired rift, and they’ll enter the rift without switching to gliding. Instant death to fall damage. This is a particularly annoying way to go out, but it adds even more power to one of the best weapons this season.
