In Monster Hunter Wilds, there is a massive number of items you will need to collect to make armor for you and your Palico. If you want to complete the armor for Zoh Shia, you will need to collect a pile of the item called Blackember Mass.
This item, added to Monster Hunter Wilds during the Title Update 1 that dropped early April 2025, is a high-rank item, and it can only be earned from one place. You’ll need to battle against Zoh Shia in high-rank to get your hands on them.

Pinnacle Coins are awarded to players who display exemplary battle skills in Monster Hunter Wilds. Here’s how and where to get them.
How to Get Blackember Mass from Zoh Shai
The first step to start stockpiling Blackember Masses is to unlock high-rank fights by completing the story. Then you will need to unlock Zoh Shia’s high-rank battle by reaching Hunter Rank 50 and completing Chapter 6-2: A First Cry. This will give you access to the high-rank Zoh Shia and all that sweet high-rank loot dropped during this more-challenging version of the fight.
There are three different ways to get Zoh Shia to drop a Blackember Mass; the best opportunity will be to break either the left or right wingarms during Phase 3 of the fight, after Zoh Shia’s wingarms turn black.
- Target: 15% drop rate
- Break Left Wingarm: 100% drop rate
- Break Right Wingarm: 100% drop rate
- Carve: 13% drop rate

Helpful Tips for Taking Down Zoh Shia High Rank
The Zoh Shia battle isn’t easy on low-rank, and the battle is made even more challenging in high-rank. While not a tempered monster, this fight will be about the same difficulty of other tempered battles you have encountered so far in Monster Hunter Wilds. The best way to make sure of success when taking down Zoh Shia high-rank is preparation.
- Zoh Shia is weak to Dragon.
- Bring along some friends to help you battle against Zoh Shia, or join a PUG. It’s much easier in a group.
- Zoh Shia is stationary, unlike many other monsters, so you will not have to chase it. This means you will not get a breather while it’s trying to run, so you want to make sure you are prepared for that.
- Bring along healing items, debuff removal, and any other MHW consumables you might need.
- Make sure to use the best armor and weapon decorations you have available to you for this fight.
