How Does Slicked Blade Work in MH Wilds?

Slicked Blade is a unique equipment skill in Monster Hunter Wilds that players can only find in Mizutsune weapons. It’s an interesting skill, to say the least, and whether or not it’s worth using is up for debate.

Equipment skills are one of the main things to consider when making a good build in MH Wilds, and players should be able to make good use of Slicked Blade if they know how it works.

Blackember Mass is an important material to help you make items in Monster Hunter Wilds, but it’s not an easy item to get your hands on.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Slicked Blade Effect

MH Wilds Slicked Blade description

Slicked Blade provides bonus Affinity when players are Wet and/or affected by Bubbleblight. The actual numbers are as follows:

Slicked Blade Stats

Slicked Blade 1

Wet: +3%; Bubbleblight: +7%

Slicked Blade 2

Wet: +6%; Bubbleblight: +14%

Slicked Blade 3

Wet: +9%; Bubbleblight: +21%

Normally, players need to get hit by a Mizutsune’s bubbles in order to get the Bubbleblight status effect. However, if you’re wearing at least four pieces of the Mizutsune armor set, you’ll get Bubbly Dance 2 as a bonus skill — this lets you gain the effects of minor Bubbleblight by dodging three consecutive times.

Since the majority of Slicked Blade’s bonus Affinity comes from when players have Bubbleblight, players can make decent use this skill when using only the four-piece Mizutsune set bonus. However, if you want to make full use of it, you need to be wet.

In MH Wilds, you are considered wet when you are affected by any sort of water, whether it’s from a stream, from rain, or from the Waterblight status effect, which is afflicted by water-based monsters like Balahara, Uth Duna, and Mizutsune. Bubbleblight does not count as being wet.

The Affinity bonus from being wet will last for 30 seconds after leaving a source of water. The Affinity from Bubbleblight does not linger, and it lasts only for as long as Bubbleblight does.

Is Slicked Blade Worth Using?

Yes, but expect there are quite a few things to consider. First, since Slicked Blade is exclusive to Mizutsune weapons (as of writing), you won’t be able to use it with any other weapon in the game. Also, since Slicked Blade’s activation requirements are strict, you’ll absolutely need to use four pieces of the Mizutsune armor set in order to take advantage of it.

The Mizutsune armor set isn’t terrible, but it will limit your overall build options. On the other hand, if you view Slicked Blade as just one part of a greater whole, there is value to be had. This skill, together with Bubbly Dance, is great for dodge-oriented builds against Water-weak monsters like Gravios.

The Slicked Blade and Bubbly Dance combo isn’t worthless, though it does pale in comparison to some other armor sets and builds, especially those that can also fit skills and decorations that provide evasion and crit bonuses.
