Like any good Soulslike, The First Berserker: Khazan will reward you with experience points as you vanquish foes. However, grinding your way to superiority sort of spits in the eye of how these games are designed. The soft cap is how these games allow players to build their characters while preventing them from breaking the game.

The short and sweet of it is that a soft cap will reduce the effectiveness of increasing stat points once you reach certain thresholds. However, every stat in The First Berserker will improve multiple attributes. And not every attribute will be affected the same way by the soft cap. This means that every stat in the game essentially has multiple soft caps. We’ll outline all of these for you and give you a complete understanding of this mechanic!
How Do Soft Caps Work In The First Berserker: Khazan?
The soft cap is a staple of the Soulslike genre. For those unfamiliar, the soft cap refers to the point where leveling up a stat results in diminished returns. It is pretty common for these games to have multiple soft caps, and The First Berserker: Khazan is no exception to this rule.
As an example, the Vitality stat has two soft caps: level 30 and level 60. You’ll gain 50 HP for every point put into Vitality until you hit level 30. You’ll then get 40 HP for every point in Vitality until you hit level 60. After level 60, you’ll only gain 30 HP for each stat. Simple, right? Well, it is for certain aspects of each stat, but it is worth noting that every primary stat point is associated with multiple aspects of Khazan.
So, even though there is an easy-to-understand soft cap for your Max Health when upgrading Vitality, there is no soft cap on the Attack Damage growth gained from the Vitality stat. You’ll gain a single point for every point you put into Vitality from level 11 to level 99. Then you have the weight aspect of the Vitality stat, which trends downward gradually. There is no really easy-to-identify soft cap when it comes to this element of the Vitality stat.
As an example, putting points into Vitality will increase your maximum weight by 0.1 for about four levels, at which point, on the fifth level, it will increase by 0.2. However, once you reach level 26, you’ll receive 0.1 for seven vitality levels in a row before you receive a 0.2. Then, after level 24, you won’t receive a 0.2 ever again. Finally, at level 63, you’ll occasionally receive no gain at all. Which is to say that the weight aspect of the Vitality stat doesn’t have a tidy soft cap. The effectiveness of boosting this stat simply gradually diminishes over time.
Every Soft Cap For Every Stat In The First Berserker: Khazan
As explained in the previous section, every stat essentially has multiple soft caps. The primary stat tends to have a more predefined soft cap, but the surrounding stats are a little more cagey. This section will break down every stat and every soft cap associated with them.
