A lot of folks just consider Lego a kid’s brand. But that’s far from the truth. If you need proof, look no further than this incredible Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter 1,369-piece set. It’s normally listed at $165, but right now, you can nab it on sale while it’s $33 off.
This massive set, inspired by the 2021 Dune movie, comes from the Lego Icons line of models. These are typically more complicated builds that are targeted at older teens and adults. In fact, Lego recommends the Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter for Lego enthusiasts 18 and older.

The star of this gargantuan set is, of course, the Atreides Royal Ornithopter. Once fully constructed, the aerial vehicle is impressively realistic. It has a detailed cockpit that can house two minifigures. A built-in dial allows for the craft to be converted into flight mode, which retracts the model’s rear ramp and landing feet. Plus, the Ornithopter’s wings can be folded out and flapped to replicate its flying ability.
The Dune Lego Icons set also includes eight different minifigures that you’re sure to recognize from the 2021 film:
- Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet)
- Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson)
- Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin)
- Chani (Zendaya)
- Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac)
- Liet Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster)
- Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa)
- Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård)
The Baron Harkonnen minifigure in particular is a stand-out. The Lego character towers over the other minifigures due to the inclusion of his long, flowing black robe.
Once you’ve spent what’s sure to be hours upon hours building, the Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter can be displayed as an incredible set piece for science fiction fans. The model stands 9 inches high, 22 inches long, and 31 inches wide. So you’re going to want to find a viable spot where this behemoth can land.
Building the Atreides Royal Ornithopter isn’t the only thing in the Dune universe fans can get lost in. Dune: Awakening is an upcoming MMORPG that launches for PC on May 20th. Developed by Funcom, the title is set in an alternate universe that puts you in the shoes of an unnamed prisoner and allows you to experience the story as either an ally of House Atreides or House Harkonnen. It will be a full retail release; no free-to-play, early access, or subscription models. The developers have also confirmed post-launch content with a future update, including sandworm riding.
Fans of Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two were initially left wondering whether the story of Paul Atreides would continue on film. Luckily, series director Denis Villeneuve confirmed there will be a third entry in the film franchise. Entitled Dune: Messiah, recent reports suggest it could begin filming as soon as June of this year. Villeneuve’s third entry in the series is likely to be the last that he directs.
If you’re a fan of the Dune series and fun, tactile hobbies like building Lego sets, the Lego Icons Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter set is a fantastic way to enjoy both. Consider ordering one today while the 1,369-piece set is discounted by 20%.
