In the Egghead arc, fans found out a ton of exciting elements through the message of Vegapunk, and he also made it quite clear to everyone in the world that the first pirate was none other than Joy Boy, an individual who existed long ago during the Void Century. Although fans weren’t sure if Joy Boy was linked to Luffy, now it is clear that he had the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika as well, and with its powers, he became the Warrior of Liberation.

Joy Boy is known to have had many allies. For instance, fans know for a fact that he was connected to the Giants of the One Piece world through Emeth, who is the Ancient Iron Giant that directly connects to Elbaf. At the same time, his relationship with the Fishmen was clear, based on the Poneglyph that Joy Boy left for them. He was likely also an ally of the other tribes of the world, such as the Tontatta, Lunarians, Skypieans, and of course, the Buccaneers, a tribe he might actually belong to himself. Needless to say, it is clear that Joy Boy most definitely had a capable pirate crew.

Fans don’t know much about Joy Boy’s time as a pirate since it was only recently revealed that he was the first pirate in existence. However, based on the bits and pieces that have been revealed, one can tell that Joy Boy was most certainly a powerful pirate captain and his crew would’ve been monstrously powerful too. Joy Boy most certainly had Emeth with him on his crew, and the Mermaid Princess, who held the power of Poseidon, was likely a part of the crew as well.

Fans can be sure that along with these two, there were other capable pirates on Joy Boy’s crew as well, most likely some shipwright from Water 7, which is where the Pluton was built around the same time when Joy Boy lived. There are also others who could’ve been a part of Joy Boy’s crew, such as a former Kuja leader that existed in the Void Century, or even Nerfertari Lily, despite her being a member of the Founding 20.
Joy Boy’s time as a pirate was likely spent trying to fight the other countries who opposed the Ancient Kingdom and their quest for advancement, and integration of all the races. Given Joy Boy’s strength, fans can say for sure that this was the mightiest crew in the whole world. With someone as strong as Emeth on board, and then Joy Boy, whose Haki is monstrously overpowered, the crew must’ve been unbeatable through conventional means.
It goes without saying that the Dawn Pirates, or whatever name Oda ends up giving them later down the line, would’ve been strong, but eventually, they were beaten and Joy Boy died. Their will was still passed on and Luffy and his crew continue to make it a reality today.
