The Rising Darkness in Akane’s Character
Akane’s Initial Struggles
Akane was first introduced in Season 1, Episode 5 during the shooting for the dating show LoveforReal. Despite being a reputed actress, we saw her struggle from the start. She was used to receiving proper instructions. She relied on scripts to play a character perfectly, but on a reality show, she could not do the same. She was desperately finding ways to give her best in the show, which made her act outside her comfort zone. As a result, she accidentally cut Yuki’s face, which made numerous fans hate her. The hate drove her into a corner, and she attempted suicide. But she was saved by Aqua.
Akane’s Unusual Tendencies
After the unfortunate event, Akane returned to the show and decided to put on a persona to help her act better. As a way of thanking Aqua, she decided to act like Ai, who was Aqua’s preferred type. While extensively researching about Ai, she was able to figure out a lot about Ai’s mysterious past. She was also able to figure out Ai’s thinking pattern and predicted that she secretly had a child. Also, in Season 2, Episode 11, when Aqua told her about the death of his biological father, Akane was immediately able to realize that the father might still be alive.
Deep down, Aqua wanted all this to end.

Akane’s Growing Feelings for Aqua
Shortly after Akane started acting perfectly as Ai’s persona, Aqua started dating her. Their relationship was purely for the show, and they considered it business. But despite the nature of their relationship, Akane was genuinely attached to Aqua. In Season 2, Episode 4, when Aqua passed out, Akane looked after him and even took him to Taishi Gotanda’s house so he could rest.
Aqua unconsciously murmured Ai’s name, and Akane was able to figure out his past. Instead of being shocked, she immediately sympathized with him. Later, the two discussed their reasons for pursuing acting, and Aqua revealed that he wanted to kill someone. Akane was not startled and instead offered to help kill that person. At the moment, it seemed that Akane was blindly obsessed with Aqua.
Is Akane Evil?
It is true that at times, Akane acts in unusual ways. Her ability to extensively find out about Ai and even accurately predict the course of Ai’s life is unsettling on some level. But it has no immoral intentions at all. She was simply shaped by her passion for acting. Her desire to play a role perfectly made her rely on extensive research that allowed her to understand the human psyche much better. This is also why she was able to understand Aqua’s intentions in dating her.
Akane’s Motive
Initially, it seemed that Akane was blinded by her feelings for Aqua. But in Season 2, Episode 11, she confessed that she was aware that Aqua was using her. She still decided to go along with it because she felt a great deal of gratitude and affection for him since he saved her life. Akane realizes Aqua’s flaws, but at the same time, she also sees the good in him. When Aqua questioned if Akane truly had romantic feelings for him, she, too, started questioning her feelings. But despite that, she was sure that she cared for him and wanted to be by his side.
