If you’re a fan of Donkey Kong — or Kong Dong, as he was once nearly called— then you’ve been eating good as of late. In early January, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD was released on Switch, and quickly became that month’s best-selling Switch game despite a late launch.
Then, last week, during Nintendo’s highly-anticipated Switch 2 Direct, it was revealed that DK would be starring in a new 3D platformer, aptly titled Donkey Kong Bananza. He’ll also be in the new Mario Kart, but that was almost a given.

Having Donkey Kong star in the Switch 2’s first big platformer is a gamble, but some hands-on time with Bananza proves it was a smart call.
If that wasn’t enough, then, courtesy of Universal Studios’ Super Nintendo World, we now know an integral piece of Donkey Kong lore — what Cranky Kong would sound like if he could talk.
The Animatronic Is Honestly Really Well Done
Ahead of the official Super Nintendo World public opening, Universal Studios in Orlando held a private showing to select people, where one parkgoer got up close and personal with Cranky.
That’s not all the amazing Donkey Kong stuff, either, as Dixie is there to welcome people into the Donkey Kong Country side of things.
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Donkey Kong-themed ride, featuring a minecart ripped straight from the video games.
Like we said at the top, Donkey Kong fans have been having quite the run as of late. The fact we know what Cranky Kong would sound like is really just the cherry on top of what has been an incredible stretch.
