Supernatural Fans Will Love Kevin Bacon’s Latest On Prime Video

Supernatural Fans Will Love Kevin Bacon's Latest On Prime Video

Summary

  • The latest Prime Video series features a demon-hunting bounty hunter who must send escaped demons back to Hell.
  • The series, similar to Supernatural, showcases mythical demonic entities and is extremely gory and brutal.
  • The show has a good Rotten Tomatoes rating, which raises hopes for a potential second season.

Supernatural is one of the best horror mystery television series American television has ever produced, and it popularized the idea of demon hunting. The series, envisioned by Eric Kripke, ran for fifteen long seasons and concluded after giving fans 327 incredible episodes. The success of Supernatural inspired other creators to come up with new versions of demon-hunting adventure stories. However, none could match the excellence of Dean and Sam Winchester’s chemistry on screen. Supernatural also inspired two spin-offs, Bloodlines and The Winchesters, but unfortunately, these stories couldn’t stick with fans for very long due to Sam and Dean’s absence.

After Supernatural, fans have been craving some good demon-hunting action, and after all this wait, they might actually have a winner. Kevin Bacon’s latest action-horror series recently premiered on Prime Video, and while the series is nowhere close to being perfect, it is a must-watch for fans who love Supernatural.

There is a Supernatural reunion coming on the newest season of Amazon’s The Boys and one of the stars of the classic CW show seems a bit anxious.

The Bondsman Could Be The Next Obsession For Supernatural Loyalists

A “Gory and Brutal” Take On Demon Hunting

While Supernatural was known for tackling Urban Legends from across America, the major narrative of the series centered around demons. It was all about Sam and Dean tracking down people possessed by demons and sending the monsters back to Hell. The idea of exploring devilish and mythical entities from Hell was a fascinating concept, and well, The Bondsman plays around the same idea. Kevin Bacon takes on the role of Hub Halloran, a Bounty Hunter who gets killed while on a job. Hub was sentenced to Hell for a reason that gets disclosed later in the series.

Surprisingly, instead of getting tortured for eternity in the dark realm, Hub comes back to life. At first, Hub doesn’t understand how and why this is happening to him, but he later learns the Devil himself has sent him back to the world of the living. The Devil hasn’t done that for Hub out of the goodness of his heart; instead, the ruler of Hell wants Hub to become a bounty hunter for Demons.

You’re still a bounty hunter, but now, you hunt demons. For the Devil.

Hell is a jail, and it has become a common practice for demons to break out of this prison and possess a living person on Earth. Hub is assigned the job of hunting down these demons and sending them back to where they belong. As long as Hub is successful in hunting down the escaped demonic convicts, he gets to see another day. However, if he fails to do the job or if his region runs out of demons, the Devil will drag his soul back to Hell. Hub obviously doesn’t want to be tortured for eternity in Hell, so he has no choice but to fulfill the task he has been assigned. On top of that, he must find a loophole so that he can stay alive even after the job is done.

This American Horror Story Season 13 Fan Theory Sounds Terrifying (& I Think It’s A Perfect Idea)

American Horror Story season 13’s story hasn’t been announced yet, and this fan idea would make for a compelling, creepy, and memorable season.

Each episode of The Bondsman begins with a demon possessing a human after killing them — a theme that Supernatural fans have seen multiple times. Interestingly, Hub returning to Earth after being sent to Hell will surely remind Supernatural fans of the time when Dean Winchester’s soul was dragged down to Hell. Like Supernatural, The Bondsman brings several mythological demonic entities to life, including Lilith. The two shows are similar in a lot of ways, but there’s one clear distinction — The Bondsman, unlike Supernatural, is extremely gory and brutal.

The Bondsman‘s Rotten Tomatoes Rating Raises Hopes For Season 2

Season 1’s Ending Suggests The Creator Has More Story To Tell

The Bondsman’s writer and co-producer, Erik Oleson, doesn’t want the series to be a one-off. That is exactly why he ended the first season on a massive cliffhanger. Erik confirmed in an interview with The Los Angeles Times that they deliberately ended the first season on a cliffhanger so that Amazon would renew the series for a second season. However, it takes more than a cliffhanger ending for a show to be renewed for more seasons.

Fortunately for The Bondsman, though, the show has gotten good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes (79%). It suggests that the audience loved seeing Kevin Bacon’s demon-hunting action on Prime Video. The creators have a lot more in mind for The Bondsman’s story, and the audience wants to see more — that’s enough ingredients for Prime Video to cook another season. However, there’s still no confirmation from the streaming platform for season 2. We have no choice but to wait and see if the show will get renewed for more seasons or if this is the end of the road for The Bondsman.
