Sea of Thieves has hosted more than its fair share of crossovers since its debut in 2018. Many of these collaborations have brought a handful of cosmetics to the lighthearted pirate sim, bringing new ship customization items and outfits based on series like Halo, Ori, and Banjo-Kazooie. There have also been a few crossovers that have been turned into fully-fledged expansions, such as Sea of Thieves‘ Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island collabs, which both added new explorable areas, voiced characters, and dedicated questlines.
But it’s been a while since Sea of Thieves hosted a crossover, the last one being Sea of Thieves‘ Borderlands collab all the way back in August 2021. But that dry spell has just been broken. About a week ago, Sea of Thieves crossed over with Bungie’s Destiny 2, and it’s one that could swing the door wide open for a new type of crossover.

Sea of Thieves’ Destiny Collaboration Explained
According to Kelly Lombardi, Rare’s Product Marketer (via an Xbox Wire blog post), Sea of Thieves‘ developers have been working with Bungie on a crossover since 2023, and the set of cosmetics released on March 27, 2025 are the fruits of that labor. All signified by the “Lightbearer” branding, Sea of Thieves‘ Destiny cosmetic sets include a unique ship bundle, a ship crest, a costume set, and a weapon bundle.
Naturally, all of these items are inspired by Destiny 2‘s in-game character models and world design. The Lightbearer costume set takes inspiration from the robes of Destiny 2‘s Guardians, while the “Silent, Mighty, and Wise” ship figureheads reference the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock classes, respectively. All of these crossover items can be bought via Sea of Thieves‘ in-game Pirate Emporium store.
Sea of Thieves Might Have Opened the PlayStation Floodgates
Destiny 2 being Sea of Thieves‘ first crossover since August 2021 shouldn’t be a mere coincidence. Almost exactly a year ago, Sea of Thieves came to PlayStation 5, marking one of the first Xbox first-party titles to venture beyond its green shores. It seems likely that the move to PlayStation helped grease the wheels of this latest Sea of Thieves x Destiny 2 crossover, with the latter’s developer now being a first-party PlayStation studio. And now that one first-party PlayStation game has collaborated with Sea of Thieves, it’s time for the rest of the dominoes to fall.
There are plenty of PlayStation-exclusive franchises that would suit the world and aesthetic of Sea of Thieves, arguably much more so than the Sci-Fi-centered Destiny 2. God of War‘s mythological setting would fit Sea of Thieves quite well, and carved wooden idols of the series’ main characters already exist, ready to be mounted onto the front of a ship. The God of War franchise’s iconic red omega logo would also look great on some sails, right alongside some runes.
With a bit of creative thinking, just about any of PlayStation’s first-party franchises could work in Sea of Thieves‘ world. Ghost of Tsushima‘s Sakai Mask could be a new outfit piece, Shadow of the Colossus‘ Sword of Dormin could be a new melee weapon, and Uncharted could even inspire an all-new treasure hunt questline. More PlayStation crossovers could be a great way to breathe new life into this 7-year-old game, while also strengthening this new bond between Xbox and PlayStation.
