During the version 5.3 Special Program, the silhouettes of seven upcoming characters in Genshin Impact were teased. By now, three of these new characters in Genshin Impact have already been released, and two more characters will arrive in the upcoming version 5.6 update, anticipated to be released on May 7.
One of these two new characters coming to Genshin Impact in version 5.6 is Escoffier, a five-star Cryo Polearm character. Based on the latest leaks, players should know what to expect from Escoffier and how she might compare to the current meta.

What to Expect From Genshin Impact Version 5.5
Every official reveal, leak, and rumor so far about the features and new content expected to arrive in Genshin Impact’s upcoming version 5.5 update.
The latest info for Escoffier’s kit comes from leaks from HomDGCat, and suggests that Escoffier will be a hybrid support/sub-DPS unit. However, players should be aware that Escoffier’s kit is subject to changes before her official release in the version 5.6 update Event Wish Banner.
Escoffier’s Rating Predictions
- A-Tier Sub-DPS
- S-Tier Support
Escoffier’s Strengths
- Talents and Abilities benefit from natural scaling as well as scaling with Escoffier’s Attack stat, which will help to prevent future power creep in Genshin Impact’s endgame content.
- Off-field, continuous Cryo application will efficiently fuel Elemental Reactions and provide Cryo Energy to other characters.
- Elemental Burst provides healing to both on-field and off-field characters, which scales with Escoffier’s associated Talent level and Attack stat.
- Constellation upgrades provide powerful buffs and utility, though Escoffier still seems like a strong support and sub-DPS unit at C0.
Escoffier’s Weaknesses
- Buffs dependent on Cryo and Hydro team compositions limit Escoffier’s versatility when encountering enemies with Elemental shields or natural Elemental resistance, which can be especially problematic during time-sensitive activities like Events, Spiral Abyss, and Imaginarium Theater.
- As a Polearm user, Escoffier’s normal, charged, and plunging attacks won’t naturally benefit from her Cryo and Hydro Elemental damage buffs unless she is paired with a character that can override her attacks with an Elemental damage type.
- Characters whose healing is tied to their Elemental Burst may require an additional healer in the team composition to provide sufficient healing in high-difficulty activities.
How Escoffier Compares to Other Cryo, Support, and Sub-DPS Characters
So far, many players have speculated that Escoffier could be a great fit on team compositions with Skirk in Genshin Impact, though this is ultimately unclear since Skirk’s kit has yet to be revealed. In the meantime, Escoffier could fill in as a replacement and potential upgrade to Freeze team compositions in place of characters like Charlotte, Shenhe, Kazuha, and Xilonen.
Escoffier Could Replace Charlotte or Shenhe on Freeze Team Comps
Overall, Escoffier and Charlotte seem to have quite similar kits that focus on off-field Cryo damage and healing. However, where Escoffier’s kit is superior is in her ability to reduce enemies’ Hydro and Cryo Elemental resistances. Between these two characters, Escoffier arguably seems like a superior pick over Charlotte.
Escoffier could also replace Shenhe as a stronger Cryo support unit for players who can get Escoffier’s character Constellation upgrades. Escoffier’s C1 Constellation can provide a whopping 60% bonus Cryo Elemental crit damage, and at C2, Escoffier’s Constellation can buff other characters’ Cryo damage by 240% of her attack stat. So, for both Charlotte and Shenhe, Escoffier could potentially replace these characters as the new best-in-slot Cryo support character. Alternatively, players could pair Escoffier with Charlotte and/or Shenhe to stack massive buffs and Cryo damage.
Escoffier Could Replace Xilonen or Kazuha as a Support/Sub-DPS Unit
Apart from how Escoffier compares to other Cryo characters, her ability to indirectly buff teammates’ damage by shredding enemies’ Cryo and Hydro resistances makes her similar to both Kazuha and Xilonen. However, since Escoffier’s Elemental resistance shredding abilities only apply to Hydro and Cryo damage, Xilonen will likely still be a better option for both Natlan and diverse Elemental Reaction team compositions, and Kazuha would still likely remain the best fit for Swirl crowd-control Team Comps.
