Battle Traits and Augments are essential to survival in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Here’s everything you need to know about them.
And that means there is plenty of opportunity for some iconic quotes. Some of these lines will be beaten into your head by the end of the game, while there are others that you might never hear by sheer merit of how much side content there is in the game. No matter what though, there are plenty of great lines you’ll be subjected to.

“Tatsu Is Not Food!”
-Tatsu
What is a Xenoblade game if it doesn’t have a Nopon companion? That role is fulfilled by Tatsu in X, though more as a guest of the party than one you bring into combat. He is more a companion to Lin than anyone else, and it is from there that some of his most iconic lines are borne.
A running gag in the joke, especially between chapters is Lin’s attempts to cook Tatsu into a delicious meal. Every attempt fails with the aforementioned cry from Tatsu, but he somehow also never learns. A boiling broth is no different from a regular bath, it seems.

“That’s Enough, You Samaarian Witch! Enough Of The Pain You’ve Caused The Universe!”
-Elma
A big part of what makes Xenoblade Chronicles X so unique is the mystery. Humans are in the dark as to the plans of the Ganglion, and none of the other aliens who are part of either NLA of the Ganglion seem to know why, ultimately, they want to eradicate humanity. This comes to a fore in Chapter Four, when Goetia makes her appearance, and her disdain for humanity is immediately clear.

“……………”
-Phog
As we already mentioned, Xenoblade Chronicles X has quite a few party members to choose from, all with very distinctive personalities, even if they can at times be a bit flat. Phog is a step above for his wonderuflly awkward traits, simply standing there in silence as the gears turn in his head to formulate a response. An adorable boy.
Phog does have quite a few actually funny things he says, such as calling cats wretched creatures that hate him, but what you’ll really start to define him by is his lack of words. “…..” is a strong contender for his best quote, but “……………..” will really blow you out of the water. A man of few words, but all of them deeply meaningful.

I’ve Been Working On Some Skell Fan Fiction
-Lin
The game has a kind of meta-narrative going on at times. It really wants you to know about Skells, how cool they are, how technologically advanced they are, how cool they are, how powerful they are in combat, and how cool they are. In fact, it even has three whole companions whose sle personality trait is that they really love Skells. And Skells are pretty cool, to be fair.

Despite Lin being a major designer of many of the Skell’s components, she is one of the less-obsessed members in the game, and that’s saying something. So if you choose to indulge her early on in conversation, she will begin spewing about her Skell fan fiction that she writes in her spare time.

“I’m An Elma Person”
-You
One thing that Xenoblade Chronicles X has over the other entries in the series is the, generously put, unhinged nature of much of the optional dialogue. The main story will remain serious as expected, but just about every piece of side content has dialogue that you would be surprised even made it into the game. Much of this can be seen in heart-to-hearts, including one of Elma’s earliest.
After getting a cat, Elma will be petting one and remark that she quite likes them, and asks if you feel the same. You can choose to say you like cats or prefer dogs, but you can also choose to be odd, and say you’re something of an Elma person. Elma does not offer you a response to this, and instead says she will be personally be the one to do a factory reset on you, since you clearly seem to be malfunctioning.
The Ma-non
After Chapter Five, you will be introduced to the Ma-non. Diminutive in stature, advanced in technological advancement, and absolutely obsessed with pizza. The Ma-non appear being chased by Ganglion as you save them, and integrate into the multi-cultural NLA in no time. And pizza played no small part in that.

Xenoblade Chronicles X has lots of little details you might have missed. Here are some of the most significant.
Really, there’s no single quote that could sum up the Ma-non’s love for Pizza. It is the most impressive advancement of humanity, something the Ma-non can no longer live without. Some even claim they would die without it. It is no small statement to say NLA’s economy is uphled by the Ma-non’s pizza-purchasing habits.

“Will I Ever Stop Excelling?”
-H.B.
If any of the party members in Xenoblade Chronicles X were to leave an impression on you, it would be H.B. What does the H.B. stand for? Literally, Hector Birtwhistle, but in reality you want it to be. H.B. is whatever you want, and exactly what NLA needs. And have no fear, he knows that, too.
H.B. has a rather unique habit to express how amazing he is. On top of changing the names of his Arts mid-combat to add ‘superior’ onto them, he also loves to chant his own praises. “Will I ever stop excelling?” he asks aloud any time he gains a level. And the answer, of course, is no. H.B. will never stop excelling.

“There’s Something About This Planet”
-Elma
There are many characters in Xenoblade Chronicles X, with many placing Elma as the true protagonist of the game. That’s a fair assertion, though misses on an even more crucial character – the planet, Mira. It is the crux of everything that occurs in the game, and seems to have powers of its own beyond a natural phenomenon.
Which is why Elma’s quote is so prescient throughout the game. There is something up with this planet. Why is everyone drawn to Mira, and why can no one escape? And maybe it’s a mystery we’ll never have solved, either.
