Following its debut at CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures has finally unveiled the latest action-packed trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and it certainly looks like the cast and crew are pulling out all the stops for the (potential) final chapter in one of the most iconic action franchises to date.
After a number of delays due to the pandemic and a shifting production, Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise’s sequel to the 2023 blockbuster hit Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is nearly upon us. Marking the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the culmination of nearly three decades of pulse-pounding thrills and shock rubber mask reveals.

Mission Impossible 8 Must Avoid No Time To Die’s Biggest Mistake
Should Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning end like the last Bond film? Why Ethan Hunt deserves a legacy-defining finish, not a tragic death.
“I need you to trust me, one last time”, Hunt implores his band of fellow Impossible Missions Force (IMF) agents and allies in the brand-new trailer. What follows is over two minutes of wall-to-wall action, as Ethan Hunt and co. set out on one final globe-trotting mission to try and stop the villainous Gabriel (Esai Morales) and the A.I. weapon “The Entity”. The latest trailer also reveals that the film is set two months after Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, with the IMF agent finding himself arrested and in handcuffs. It looks like Hunt’s past is finally catching up with him. Could this be due to what looks like Hunt using a VR headset to potentially connect with—and use—The Entity?
Featuring several significant flashbacks to past installments – including the iconic CIA vault break-in from the first entry, the helicopter stunt from Fallout, and the audacious motorbike mountain jump from Dead Reckoning – the trailer plays out Hunt’s greatest hits. Fans are also introduced to franchise newcomers, including Severance’s dancing supervisor Mr. Milchick, aka Tramell Tillman, and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, while a shock reveal hints at Benji’s (Simon Pegg) and Grace’s (Hayley Atwell) potential deaths.
Furthermore, while this entry follows Dead Reckoning Part One, there is one crucial element that sets it apart from its predecessor – with director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise avoiding a certain misstep.
The Latest Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Trailer Reportedly Doesn’t Feature The Film’s Most Dangerous Stunt
In what appears to be Ethan Hunt’s last mission – should he choose to accept it – the trailer promises even more death-defying stunts and explosive practical sequences, including a new look at the highly anticipated biplane stunt and the much-teased underwater sequence, with star Tom Cruise previously unveiling a tense behind-the-scenes look at the “challenging” sequence. Despite each entry seemingly featuring even bigger fight sequences and stunt set pieces (with Cruise notably breaking his ankle in one rooftop jumping stunt in Mission: Impossible – Fallout), this climactic installment is set to feature its most dangerous yet, and the director and star are reportedly saving the best stunt for release.
While the Dead Reckoning trailer prominently used the movie’s biggest stunt as a major part of the film’s marketing—spotlighting the terrifying motorcycle cliff jump Cruise performed himself—thankfully, the teased action sequence will be saved as a surprise for fans of the franchise.
According to Empire‘s Executive Editor Chris Hewitt, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning features a stunt involving Cruise that is “so insanely dangerous” that he “yelped” when he watched it.
Whether this really is the iconic character’s swan song remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that this is one of 2025’s biggest and most anticipated blockbusters. Buckle up for what looks to be one of the more emotional and thrilling installments yet.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 21, 2025.
