We all love a good farming game. It’s not like it’s easy in reality to just decide to be a farmer, so games are some of the only ways to experience that lifestyle otherwise. These farms also tend to be much closer to civilization than in reality, which is a nice treat when you get to meet all these friendly villagers.

Story of Seasons: 11 Games Marvelous Should Remake Next
Here are some more Marvelous games we want to see a remake of.
The Story of Seasons games, and Harvest Moon alongside it, are some of the progenitors of these types of games, and you can bet there sure are a lot of them. Probably a lot more than you could even imagine. So let’s dive in and get to counting just how many Story of Seasons games there are.
Are Harvest Moon And Story Of Seasons Connected?
The first question that needs to be asked here is an important one – are Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons related? The short answer is yes, while the long answer is also yes, but with many more caveats. Up until 2012’s Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning, all of the Harvest Moon games were developed by the same studio as the later Story of Seasons games, Marvelous.
This changed when Marvelous changed the localisation studio from a contracted one, Natsume Inc, to their own American division. However, Natsume owned the rights to the name ‘Harvest Moon’, but not the games themselves. As such, the original Harvest Moon games are still owned by Marvelous, though the Harvest Moon name itself remains Natsume’s.
The Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games still go by the same name in Japan. This is Bokujou Monogatari, The Farm Story.
To this end, the Story of Seasons games are the continuation of the Harvest Moon games that ended in 2012, and are still developed by Marvelous. Many of the original Harvest Moon games, such as Friends of Mineral Town, have even been remade under the new Story of Seasons title. Any game with the title ‘Harvest Moon’ post-2012, beginning with 2014’s Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley.
How Many Original Harvest Moon Games Are There?
With the knowledge that the original Harvest Moon games are tied to the current Story of Seasons titles, it’s worth acknowledging them as part of Story of Seasons as a whole since in Japan, they are still the exact same game with the exact same title. For the sake of clarity in this article though, we will still divide Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons into separate sections.
Here are all the original Harvest Moon games:
This will only include the Harvest Moon games up until 2012.

There are also a few versions of these games which add new content, as well as the ability to play as a female character. These aren’t brand-new games in their own right, but oftentimes have unique names. Here are all of them:

How Many Story Of Seasons Games Are There?
Following from the naming split in 2012, the Story of Seasons games pick up on the 3DS, and continue their gameplay style in much the same way. In reality, it was only just a name change, and nothing else. Development remains the same, with the games stil focused on the farming and village interaction you’ve grown to love over the decades.
Here are each of the Story Of Seasons games so far:

Of these games, three are brand-new, and three are remakes.
As you can see, there are quite a few less, only numbering up to six in total, with half of those even being remakes of earlier games. Counting all of the previous Harvest Moon games on top, that brings us to a total of 26 games, or 32 if you wish to count the earlier Harvest Moon expanded releases as well.
How Many Spin-off Games Are There?
Finally, we have the collective spin-off games of both Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. Despite the series having been ongoing since 1996, there actually aren’t that many spin-offs, all things considered. The bulk of the series has been put into the mainline games, which probably explains why there are so many of them.
Here are all of the spin-off games in this wonderfully storied series:

Though Rune Factory is technically a spin-off of Harvest Moon, it is large enough in its own right that we will not be counting it as a spin-off here.
aSome of these games never made it to the west, though the majority did. Some focus on more specific aspects of the series, such as My Little Shop putting more emphasis on the selling of your produce, while others are crossover entries, such as Doraemon Story of Seasons.
In total, there are ten spin-off games, which would bring us up to a grand total of 36 games in the collective Story of Seasons series. You could push that to 42 as well if you counted the various re-releases.
