Spy X Family follows Loid, Yor, and Anya as they navigate through life as a new family. Along the way, all three characters get caught up in strange situations, assassination attempts, and espionage. This is just a normal day for them though. While the show is simple in its storytelling, there are some details that you may have missed.

Anya From Damian’s POV

A cute Anya from Damiens POV.

There is no denying that Anya is adorable, but sometimes, she makes some ridiculous faces. While we still love her, she doesn’t look quite as cute during these moments. Damian would argue otherwise though, as whenever we see Anya from his perspective, she looks quite adorable.

Gone are her giant white eyes with black-dot pupils. Damian’s point-of-view for Anya involves rosy cheeks and large sparkly eyes. Although he tries to hide his crush on Anya, he’s not fooling us in the slightest.

Ashe Talton As Anya’s Inspiration

A cover for Rengoku no Ashe.

Before Spy X Family, mangaka Tatsuya Endo created Rengoku no Ashe. This is a one-shot that follows a girl who looks strikingly similar to Anya, complete with pink hair, a little black dress, and two black ear cones on the top of her head.

While they look the same, Ashe and Anya aren’t the same character. Endo used Ashe as inspiration for Anya due to liking it. Interestingly, Ashe also has similar earrings to Yor, so inspiration was taken from here as well.

Anya’s Test Subject Number

We know that Spy X Family takes a lot of inspiration from the spy genre; this is no surprise. Sometimes, these spy references are put in when you least expect it. This also includes Anya’s test subject number, which is 007.

Just in case you aren’t up-to-date on your spy lore, this is the codename of James Bond, who is one of the most famous spies out there. With this in mind, it’s almost fate that Anya meets her dog, who is named Bond.

Loid And Yor’s Pillows

A screenshot of the Yes No pillows from Spy x Family.

Loid and Yor aren’t actually married, so the two don’t sleep in the same bed. Still, we get to see a fake bedroom for Yor and Loid when Yor’s brother comes to visit. To keep up the illusion of marriage, Loid buys various “lovey-dovey” items, including two pillows that say “yes”.

What are these pillows though? Yes/No pillows are used as a form of communication to indicate that you are open to being intimate. Rather than outright saying it, you can use the pillow to say it for you. Of course, Loid and Yor don’t talk about the pillows, but they both end up looking very embarrassed about it.

4

Loid’s Underwear Color

A screenshot from Spy x Family showing Loids underwear color.

Loid is a mysterious figure, but at one point, we catch a glimpse of his spy profile. A lot of the information has been redacted, but for some reason, we can see that his underwear color is black. This begs the question, why is this relevant?

Chances are, it’s just a silly addition to the manga and show, but this also leads us to wonder how WISE even got this information in the first place.

Eden’s Real-Life Inspiration

The architecture of Spy X Family is gorgeous, but did you know that it’s based on real-life locations? Take Eden Academy, for example. Although the school is fictional, it features locations such as the Bridge of Sighs, which is a covered bridge found in Venice.

There are also portions of the school based on Oxford, Humboldt University, and Eton College. This blend of architecture gives the show an older European vibe, complete with grand buildings and intricate designs.

Vehicles In Spy X Family

Cars (and other vehicles) aren’t really the focus of Spy X Family, but they don’t get pushed to the side. Rather than generic options, the show uses real-life vehicles. Thanks to Reddit user _7567Rex, we can check out the anime cars and their real-life counterparts.

Thanks to their phenomenal work, we can see cars like the Mercedes Benz S600 Pullman from the ’60s, and the classic VW T1 Camper from the ’50s. The only out-of-place vehicle seems to be the bright yellow school bus, but everything else helps to create the old European vibe that we mentioned above.

The Manga Cover Chairs

The first three manga covers for Spy x Family.

While this isn’t technically in the anime, it’s still worth pointing out the chairs that appear on each volume of Spy X Family. Each volume features a character (or two characters) sitting on a unique-looking chair. These aren’t just made-up; each chair is based on a real-life designer chair.

For example, in volume one, Loid is sitting on an LC2 chair, which goes for a few thousand dollars online. This chair was first introduced in the 1920s, and you’ll find that all of the chairs come from an older era.
