A recent Genshin Impact leak has shared the updated lineup for the Event Banners in Version 5.6, as only one slot remains unfilled. While Genshin Impact has always had stacked Event Banners throughout its history, the Natlan era has arguably weaponized this approach to a whole new level. By pushing older, less popular units to the Chronicled Banner, the developers have been able to design a banner schedule that keeps meta characters in a rapid rotation.
While a decent number of players have critiqued the banner format in Genshin Impact, especially with its ever-growing cast of characters, HoYoverse has been content to keep things as they are. Version 5.5 had an especially stacked set of banners, featuring Xianyun, Varesa, Xilonen, and Venti as its 5-Stars. However, Version 5.6 is set to introduce Escoffier, a 5-Star Cryo Polearm character who is expected to bring about a resurgence of Freeze – one of the most neglected Elemental Reactions in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact’s upcoming five-star Cryo character, Escoffier, could be a game-changer for Hydro and Cryo Freeze team compositions in version 5.6.
According to HomDGCat, the lineup for Version 5.6 will include: Escoffier, Kinich, Navia, Raiden, Ifa, Lynette, Layla, Kujou Sara, and Thoma. Though the 5-Stars for the upcoming patch were known for some time, the 4-Stars in Version 5.6 have remained a mystery. Ifa in Genshin Impact will make his debut during Version 5.6, and as a new character, will most likely feature in the first half of the update.

As for the other 4-Star characters in the lineup, Layla will most likely be paired with Escoffier, Kujou Sara with Raiden, and Thoma with Kinich. The final slot could be reserved for a newer character, such as Ororon, especially when one considers the synergy he has with Ifa. Lastly, Lynette is a bit of a wildcard, and has an equal chance of appearing on either half of Version 5.6. While players haven’t been thrilled with the nerfs given to Ifa over the course of beta testing, Escoffier in Genshin Impact is expected to be a strong Support character for Hydro and Cryo hypercarries.
Regardless of how Version 5.6 plays out, fans should be mindful of their Primogem funds, as Version 5.7 is set to introduce Skirk to Genshin Impact. While her optimal team will include Escoffier, Skirk is rumored to be a Cryo character on the level of Mavuika, and a unit that will come to define Freeze teams going forward. Genshin Impact players who are tired of Vaporize and Hyperbloom should keep an eye out for Skirk and Escoffier, especially if Nod-Krai decides to double down on the Cryo element. Version 5.6 is expected to launch on May 7, 2025.
