  • Villains like Piglins and Illagers add conflict to the movie, with Piglins leading an army and Illagers attacking the main cast.
  • Familiar creatures such as zombies, creepers, and endermen make appearances, with a unique twist, and Chickens play an unexpected role.

7 Best Easter Eggs And Hidden Details In A Minecraft Movie

Here are the best easter eggs in A Minecraft Movie!

After all, videogame movies usually are infamous for their lack of authenticity to the source material. But the Minecraft film really stuck to their guns and gave us something straight out of the game. From its blocky locales, to the mechanics, and even the creatures, it’s all accurate. Well, mostly. With adherence to the original in mind, we’ve taken a look at the film to point out every iconic mob that pops up in order of appearance in the Minecraft movie.

Warning: Spoilers For A Minecraft Movie Are Below.

21

Bees

A Minecraft Movie: A minecraft version of a bee shown in the movie.

First up we got Bee’s. These fuzzy buzzing blocks pop up in the first few minutes of thr film when Jack Blacks character Steve first arrives in the Overworld.

They merrily sail past the camera and occassionaly appear in the background as a bit of extra set dressing. In the game they pollinate flowers and are found near hives that can be harvested for honey if you have a pair of shears or a glass bottle. They’re a neutral mob, but they turn hostile when attacked or have their honey harvested.

20

Sheep

A Minecraft Movie: A pink sheep in the minecraft film bleating.

Next up we have another iconic critter, Sheep. Another animal that pops up pretty early on, the ones we see at first are Pink and are used by Steve (Jack Black) to build his third house.

But it’s not a one and done like some of the other mobs we’re covering as Sheep re-appear a few times in the film. Albeit in a few different shades, or being eaten alive by a zombie like one unlucky lad.

19

Llama

A Minecraft Movie: A minecraft version of a Llama.

One of many new creature additions to the Minecraft game post-launch, Llamas are big, dopey, and pretty adorable. In the movie they’re just as dim and they pop up a handful of times.

They’re mainly set-dressing, or used as a gag to highlight how hopelessly unaware they often are. In the game they’re used as a pack animal and portable storage. Multiple lamas up to a maximum of 10 can also be strung together in a long winding caravan. Though we don’t see any of those in the movie.

18

Cow

A Minecraft Movie: A block shaped cow mooing in the movie.

Everyone’s favorite noisy side of beef, Cows have been in Minecraft since the beginning and it’s nice to see them in the movie. They appear very early on alongside all the other easily recognisable friendly mobs and they don’t really interact with anyone much other than standing in the background.

We’ve crafted a list of everyone who’ll play a significant role in A Minecraft Movie!

In the game they’re much more useful though because they can be milked with a bucket to gain an ingredient to make a cake, or if they’re killed they drop leather and Raw Beef. Which is another crafting piece and cookable food. So they’re a handy animal to have around.

17

Wolf

A Minecraft Movie: A tamed Minecraft wolf with hearts floating around its head.

To add a bit of tension very early on in the film we’re introduced to Wolves as Steve meets a particularly angry one within the first five minutes of the movie. But all concern is immediately removed as he tames it instantly with a bone and calls it Dennis.

Dennis then becomes a supporting character in the film and helps drive the plot forward. We also see an army of tamed wolves fighting Piglins led by Malgosha in the climax of the film. The dog army is a familiar sight to many Minecraft players as you always end up with at least one or two dogs after playing for a short time.

16

Panda

A Minecraft Movie: A panda group in a bamboo forest.

A fairly new addition to the game in the last few years, and an unexpected sight in the movie, Pandas pop up twice. Once at the beginning where Steve mentions them, and then later on as Steve and the gang land amongst them using a water bucket safety net exploit.

Panda’s are a fairly rare spawn that only appear in jungle biomes. They were added to the game around 2018 to 2019, and there’s a few different colours as well as baby panda’s. In general it’s a passive mob that just mills around in the Overworld.

The choice of having the Pandas in the Minecraft movie alongside Jack Black is thought to be a subtle Kung Fu Panda reference.

15

Piglins

A Minecraft Movie: An aggressive group of piglins invade and destroy a village in the Overworld.

If you were looking for antagonists to use in a movie about Minecraft, then Piglins are the most obvious pick. Renamed Piglins after originally being called Zombie Pigmen, the team behind the film thought the same and so we see these odd bi-pedal boys acting as the main source of conflict as the film goes on.

They’re led by the witch Malgosha, and we get a lot of different variants of them. From Baby to Adult, and all between. In the film they Zombify when they’re exposed to sunlight, just like in the game. It’s a process that takes about 15 seconds, but the benefit of this happening is that it stops them from using their crossbows. They also tend to congregate around Nether Portals as they wander out from The Nether.

We also see a Piglin Brute appearing as a General, but they get killed by Malgosha after failing to recapture the Orb of Dominance.

14

Villager

A Minecraft Movie: A number of villagers in their town watching things go by.

Of course since there are Piglins, they need Villagers to harass and they do make quite the appearance in the movie. Emitting their telltale nasally honks they wander around in the background of scenes and generally lend a bit of life to the film.

16 Mods That Add New Dimensions To Minecraft

We’re going somewhere new – these are some of the best mods that add new dimensions to Minecraft.

We get to see them going about their business in their cozy town, and then helping Steve and the gang prepare for their final battle at the end of the film. There’s also one villager, who’s voiced by Matt Berry by the way, that escapes the Overworld. He immediately gets run over by Vice Principal Marlene in her car, but she apologies by taking him to dinner and then marries him whilst also learning the Villagers nasally language.

Those familiar with Matt Berry will not be surprised by his appearance as he often pops up in videogames and their adaptations.

13

Ghast

A Minecraft Movie: A ghast setting off its signature flaming projectile.

As the movie goes on we as an audience pop into and out of The Nether for various bits of exposition and storybeats. On one of those trips we get to see a Ghast flying about making its signature scream right before it fireballs someone.

It’s a quick moment, but don’t worry about missing it as Ghasts appear quite frequently. The Piglins use them as transport and weapons platforms. Kind of like a screaming piggy Air Force that’s fairly ineffective.

Fun Fact; According to Jason Momoa’s character, to get the Ghasts to shoot fireballs you have to tugg on their tentacles.

12

Skeleton

A Minecraft Movie: A skeleton army spawning on the first night in the Overworld.

Skeletons are a bane in the game, and they’re just as much a threat in the film. They pop up when the gang first arrives in the Overworld and are caught outside with no cover when the sun goes down.

They chase the group, but are eventually killed when the sun comes up. They pop up later a few times toward the end during the big battle, but that’s about it. Overall they look good and they fire a lot of arrows, mostly from enchanted bows.

11

Spider Jockey

A Minecraft Movie: A spider jockey charging out of the darkness.

Appearing amongst the mobs during the first Skeleton scene are bony boys riding Spiders. These eight legged rodeo pros are only seen during this specific scene as a wandering patrol, and then never reappear again.

They’re a fairly unique mob to have picked to put in the film, and it does feel a little like double dipping as the normal skeletons are already present. But it’s still a fun little reference for those that are there purely for game references.

10

Zombies

A Minecraft Movie: A Zombie and its rotting face in the minecraft movie.

Zombies in the Minecraft game are not particularly scary, and are more of a nuisance if anything. Unless there’s a lot of them. But ,credit where credits due, the movie does a decent job of making them feel a bit more threatening.

These Zombies are a bit more gooier looking, and alongside a fairly decomposed face these rotting lads are a lot more resilient. For example, one resets a broken neck, whilst another regenerates a shattered spine. They appear twice in the movie, and it’s enjoyable to see their familiar falling apart faces.

9

Creeper

A Minecraft Movie: A creeper flashing right before it blows up.

If a creature made of pure spite and malice had a name, it would be the Creeper. In the game they’re an explosive menace that just exist to make sure you can’t have nice things, but in the film they’re frustratingly tamed down.

Jason Momoas character introduces us to one at first, but its explosion is more sparkly puff than architecture annihilating blast. And alongside a few appearing in the finale, we get one scene with a massive amount of them during a showdown between Steve and the Great Hog inside Steve’s Creeper Farm.

8

Chicken

A Minecraft Movie: A chicken about to be cooked by hot lava.

To pull things back to the friendly mobs for a moment, the next one we meet is a Chicken. Although what happens to them is a little brutal. In a village it is revealed Steve has a Fast Food Fried Chicken Chain.

Turns out Steve uses lava to fry them alive to make food, and he sings about this happily. We also see numerous adorable Chickens in the background of a few other scenes, and in the finale when Steve launches eggs at Malgosha which break open into Chickens that also attack her.

Jack Black sings a lot in the Minecraft movie.

7

Baby Villager

A Minecraft Movie: A baby villager closes their eyes amongst a vegetable patch.

Baby Villagers are a common sight in Minecraft when you are near any populated Village. In the movie they’re primarily in the background in any scenes in the Village.

They don’t do much other than wander around, stick close to other Villagers, or make their nasally noises. So it’s accurate to the game at least as they’re also mainly set dressing.

6

Pig

A Minecraft Movie: A technoblade cameo in the minecraft movie.

This is one of those look-away-for-a-second-and-miss-it kind of cameos as we only get one pig. It appears during the Village visit, and the one we see is wearing a crown.

According to Steve he’s a local legend, but then never elaborates further on that. As it turns out, this is a reference to Technoblade, a Youtuber and Lets-Play creator that played a lot of Minecraft and sadly passed away back in 2022.

In the Minecraft game loading screen, one of the text blurbs reads “Techno Blade Never Dies!”.

5

Iron Golem

A Minecraft Movie: An iron golem patrols a village for intruders.

Naturally, you can’t have Villagers without their stalwart silent protectors The Iron Golems. We get a good look at one of these boys when the gang reaches the village, and how effective they are at repelling attacks.

They’re later used en masse during the final showdown with Malgosha, as an army of them are crafted together by the gang to defend the Overworld. One also is given a buff with speed boots which makes it much faster, and gives it the ability to leap extremely high in the air. Although you can’t do that in the game sadly.

4

Hoglins

A Minecraft Movie: Jack black flying away from Hoglins using Jason Momoa.

These piggy boys also make an appearance briefly during a big chase scene. In the movie they’re ridden by groups of Piglins as a form of cavalry for Malgosha’s army, and they get battered apart by the hero gang pretty easily during a big chase scene.

In the game Hoglins are a hostile mob found primarily in the Nether. They can’t be ridden by the player or a full grown Piglin, but like the Chicken Jockey, there are rare occurrences where a Baby Piglin will spawn on top of one.

3

Vindicator

A Minecraft Movie: The creepy halls of the woodland mansion and a patrolling Vindicator.

A hostile mob type that was added back in 2016, a Vindicator is a type of illager. For those not familiar, illagers are essentially the mirror opposite of Villagers, and they’re a nasty bunch to run into. Vindicators are known to spawn inside Woodland Mansions and carry Iron Axes.

The movie keeps this accurate, and it also drops in quite a large number of them in the Mansion. They appear during a scene when the gang is breaking into the large creepy structure to steal an Earth Crystal to use with the Orb of Dominance. But, they end up capturing Steve and Garret, forcing them to fight in a ring for their lives.

Steve mentions there’s also Evokers, but we never see them in the Woodland Mansion.

2

Chicken Jockey

A Minecraft Movie: A rare chicken jockey cameo within the minecraft movie.

An appearance that got memed into oblivion before the movie even came out, and also caused a lot of riotous yells in theatres, the Chicken Jockey only has one cameo in the film. It’s a rare appearance since the mob itself is also an equally unique spawn, but it’s there.

In the movie the duo of Chicken and Baby Zombie are pitted against Steve and Garret in a wrestling ring. Our heroes of course win, but it’s a very close fight somehow as the tiny baby keeps massive Jason Momoa on the ropes constantly.
