From Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ encased Rupee-shaped award for “Most bushes cut and pots smashed,” to Call of Duty: World at War‘s hidden beach-landing Ray Gun, to the countless secrets added to the various iterations of Nuketown over the years, the Call of Duty franchise is home to some pretty memorable Easter eggs and references. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has carried this legacy of Easter eggs forward with gusto.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has spread quite a few Easter eggs across its campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes, including those that reference the series’ own past as well as the wider gaming world. As new maps continue to be added to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 via post-launch seasons, new Easter eggs join them, and the latest seemingly pays a subtle homage to the Resident Evil franchise.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Resident Evil Easter Egg Explained
With the recent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 3, players were introduced to the brand-new Zombies map, Shattered Veil. The latest chapter in Weaver and the rest of the crew’s ongoing story, Shattered Veil takes players to an Appalachian mansion with a “diabolical past.”
In this mysterious, seemingly abandoned mansion, players can find an empty weapon mount above a defunct fireplace, surrounded by taxidermied deer heads. If players have a Marine SP shotgun equipped and the Death Perception Perk active, they can interact with the weapon mount, which kicks off a challenging mini Easter egg.
This Easter egg seems to be a rather subtle tribute to the very first Resident Evil game. In 1996’s Resident Evil (and its 2001 remake), players find a shotgun mounted on the wall during the early hours of their exploration of Spencer Mansion. Removing the shotgun triggers a spike trap that emerges from the ceiling. To take the shotgun safely, players need to first find the broken shotgun elsewhere in the mansion and swap it out for the working one before the spikes reach them. Or, if they’re playing as Jill Valentine, they can take the working shotgun and lovable companion Barry Burton can swoop in to save the day.
Given that Black Ops 6‘s Easter egg can only be achieved with a shotgun, and given Sam Colton Hall’s general similarity to Spencer Mansion, it seems likely that this Easter egg is a nod to this iconic Resident Evil moment.
Though it could be sheer coincidence, this wouldn’t be the first time Call of Duty has referenced Resident Evil. Back during Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s third season, players could unlock a special blueprint for the Renetti pistol that made it look a lot like Albert Wesker’s Samurai Edge handgun.
The Rewards for Completing Shattered Veil’s Resident Evil Easter Egg
Upon triggering Shattered Veil’s shotgun Easter egg, players will be tasked with eliminating a horde of zombies with a specific Field Upgrade, which they’ll be able to identify by shooting the left-most deer head and observing the symbol it produces. Once complete, their Marine SP shotgun will have its rarity upgraded. Players can repeat this process several times, eventually upgrading the shotgun to its Pack-a-Punch form.
