Summary
- Scourge Invasions will continue in WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8, offering players new challenges and rewards.
- Confusion arose from PTR builds lacking the event, but a post by Josh Greenfield clarified that the event would stay.
- The season’s last update brings new content on April 8 and a raid on April 10.
World of Warcraft Classic has officially confirmed that Scourge Invasions will still be available for players during Season of Discovery Phase 8. Though there was some confusion about whether World of Warcraft would keep the world activity going in the new update, fans now know that Scourge Invasions will remain active after April 8.
Scourge Invasions are a world event added in Phase 7 of World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery in which players can battle undead and cultists in major cities and other zones, earning powerful gear and useful items in the process. However, it was originally unclear if the event would change at the end of the update like Phase 3’s Nightmare Incursions did – or if it would end entirely after Kel’thuzad’s defeat in the Naxxramas raid.

Longtime Blizzard art director Bill Petras has passed away, most well-known for his work on World of Warcraft and the Overwatch franchise.
Now, World of Warcraft has set the record straight on Scourge Invasions in Phase 8. World of Warcraft Classic senior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield recently confirmed in a post on Bluesky that the world activity would remain available after the update. This means players will still be able to collect Necrotic Runes, Sanctified armor, and other unique rewards from the event for the foreseeable future.
Scourge Invasions Are Staying in WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8
This confusion ostensibly came from the fact that certain builds of the Season of Discovery Phase 8 Public Test Realm lacked the Scourge Invasions, leading fans to erroneously assume the event would be removed in the update. Greenfield clarified that “the PTR sometimes has different configurations than live servers will have,” likely causing the Scourge Invasions to disappear from the test realms, even though there were no plans to remove them from WoW Classic Season of Discovery with the launch of Phase 8.
All things considered, Scourge Invasions sticking around is a good thing. The world activity joined the long list of original content in Season of Discovery, providing new challenges and rewards that have never been seen before. Evidence suggests World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8 may be its last one, so it would have been a shame to lose such a popular activity during such a climactic update.

The world activities in New Avalon open up on April 8 after an eight-hour maintenance period, with the new Scarlet Enclave raid coming to WoW Classic Season of Discovery on April 10. While most fans will be enjoying the new content, they can rest easy knowing the Scourge will still be invading when they’re ready to smite some undead again.
