Summary
- Nintendo fans, there’s some bad news: Achievements or Trophies aren’t coming with the launch of the Switch 2.
- In a new interview, Nintendo has outright confirmed that the feature won’t be coming to its next console.
- Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will have a form of achievements in the Nintendo app, though it’s a one-off type of feature.
By now, it’s no secret that Nintendo fans have a lot of wishes, and we mean a lot of wishes. Chief among them is probably either a localization of Mother 3 or a way to play all the Pokémon games on modern hardware.

Hurry up and bring these Nintendo 3DS classics to the Switch.
More practically, it was a port of Wind Waker to Switch, which has since been confirmed via last week’s Switch 2 Direct. Oh, and some form of Trophies or Achievements. Unfortunately, it seems like the latter isn’t happening anytime soon.
Fans Have Wanted Some Achievement System For A Long Time
In a recent interview conducted by Polygon, Nintendo has officially outright confirmed that its next console will not follow the cues from PlayStation or Xbox in having a dedicated system-wide achievement feature.
“Nope,” vice president of player and product experience Bill Trinen said when asked if the Switch 2 will finally bring the feature.
But What About Breath Of The Wild And Tears Of The Kingdom?
Last week, during the long-awaited dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, it was revealed that both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom would have some type of achievement system, giving fans hope that things were finally happening.
As part of the Zelda Notes feature in the Nintendo app, players will have access to a quasi-achievement system that will track things like the number of shrines completed or locations visited, not too dissimilar from how Trophies and Achievements work in other games.
However, based off Trinen’s words, it now appears that this system will be a one-off type of feature that is exclusive to the app and likely won’t extend to other first-party games in Nintendo’s library. Nintendo has long marched to the beat of its own drum, so it shouldn’t be too surprising in the end that achievements won’t be coming. Still, it was wishful thinking.
