Naruto fans love watching these freinships develop and blossom.
Surprisingly enough, a lot of Boruto characters have showcased surprising growth since their return in Two Blue Vortex, whereas some villains from back in the original Boruto run have cemented their place as new contenders for powerful characters that may put other Naruto characters to shame.
10
Kashin Koji
The Perfect Clone Of Jiraiya
Introduced initially as a mere masked figure within Kara, Kashin Koji is revealed to be not only a clone of the Sannin Jiraiya, but a clone specifically created to kill Kara’s leader, Isshin Otsutsuki. Koji’s presumed death will be revealed as a fluke in Two Blue Vortex, when it’s explained that he’s been Boruto’s teacher all along after Sasuke’s “conversion” into a Chakra Tree and Hidari’s activation as a Human God Tree. Alongside this reawakening of Koji’s came a Shinjutsu he inherited from Shibai Otsutsuki: Ten Directions, an ability that lets him see many possible timelines. It’s through this “sight” that Kashin Koji peered into possibilities where Boruto trained and lost against Jura, and it’s through this analysis that Koji began training Boruto to gain new skills in a short span of time.
Despite Koji’s focus on his student, the Sannin clone isn’t to be underestimated. Aside from possessing virtually all the skills of his template, Koji’s body is infused with Scientific Ninja Tools that allow him to produce sticky oil from his mouth and a smokescreen directly from his body. Koji has a natural aptitude for Fire, Earth, and Yin Release for feats such as imbuing his fists with fire, converting earth to mud, and performing Genjutsu. Even his Sage Mode is perfect, as he sees little to no deformities, unlike the Sannin himself. Having the ability to anticipate the future means Koji will likely be aware of enemies who will try to fight him, giving him the upper hand immediately.

Sasuke Uchiha
A Convenient Rinnegan Made Obsolete For Nerfing
Despite the new threats arriving in Boruto, fans can still count on the likes of Sasuke Uchiha to find a way to win. While Sasuke often uses his Rinnegan’s unique displacement ability, he has his own Sharingan (and Mangekyo Sharingan), his prodigious talent, and his quick battle senses to figure out a way out of sticky situations. As evidenced by his time-traveling expedition with Boruto, Sasuke’s battle experience is more than enough for him to go toe-to-toe against Urashiki Otsutsuki with a younger Naruto and Jiraiya without having to escalate the fight to Kage levels of concern.
Throughout Boruto’s story, it was also Sasuke who managed to help fight Momoshiki Otsutsuki, defeat multi-Sharingan user Shin Uchiha, and try to stop Isshiki Otsutsuki from fulfilling his plans revolving around Boruto and Kawaki. Such was Sasuke’s threat potential that a Momoshiki-possessed Boruto had to literally pluck the Rinnegan out of Sasuke’s face to nerf the Uchiha, which even then would still mean Sasuke possessing the full might of his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
8
Isshiki Otsutsuki
Kaguya’s Original Partner
- Debut: Boruto Episode 202
The reveal that Isshiki Otsutsuki was at an even greater power level than that of Kaguya Otsutsuki was a difficult image to imagine for Naruto fans—that is, until his Boruto fight scene revealed how easily he could defeat an empowered Naruto and Sasuke, who had previously sealed his partner away. Kara scientist Amado Sanzu theorized that, had Isshiki attained full control of his abilities (be it through a Vessel like Kawaki or some other method), he could easily destroy the planet or bend it to his will (quite literally).
As an Otsutsuki, Isshiki has access to unconventional abilities: instantaneous space-time travel across different dimensions, flight, illusions, and even powerful seals. He also possesses the Byakugan as well as a unique Dojutsu called the Kokugan—an eye that can see the life-force of living things as well as use Shinjutsu, which can shrink himself or other non-living targets (Sukunahikona) and store and deploy them instantly from another dimension (Daikokuten)—abilities he used against Naruto and Sasuke to great effect. Such was Isshiki’s power that it took an unfortunate chain of events to cause his demise—namely the instability of his current vessel, Jigen, and the betrayal of his supposed “perfect” vessel, Kawaki.

Naruto Uzumaki
Needed Kurama Gone For Proper Nerfing
It’s no surprise that Naruto Uzumaki remained a powerhouse in the events of his son’s story, having been a key player in Konoha’s defense during Momoshiki’s assault as well as the one person who managed to go toe-to-toe against Isshiki Otsutsuki with the help of the Nine-Tails. Naruto’s status as the Seventh Hokage is compounded with his mastery of Sage Mode, which allowed him to fight chakra-absorbing Otsutsuki, with the infusion of the Nine-Tails Chakra significantly increasing his firepower. When needed, Naruto can create an army of himself through Shadow Clone Jutsu, transform into a visage of Kurama himself, and he can even release Tailed-Beast Bombs on top of Ultra-Big Rasengan attacks.

Though these Naruto characters felt a little unimportant at first, they stepped up to the plate and changed the story out of nowhere.
When push came to shove, Kurama also elected to use the Baryon Mode with Naruto—a form that used the entirety of the Nine-Tails’ life force in exchange for a massive power boost. In this form, Naruto has attained tremendous strength, speed, and reflexes that outmatched even the likes of Isshiki. With this new mode, Naruto’s strikes will not just deplete Kurama’s life force but also that of the enemy, permanently weakening them. This feat alone catapults Naruto close to the top of this list, but the loss of Kurama will inevitably push him further away, especially when Himawari’s true relationship with the reborn Kurama is revealed. Some say the Baryon Mode was an insult to Naruto’s legacy, as there seemed to be no need to “remove” Kurama from Naruto simply to “nerf” him in favor of the growth of other characters.
6
Daemon
Killing Intent Can Indeed Kill
- Debut: Boruto Episode 289
Introduced initially as the mischievous and somewhat annoying brother of AIda, Daemon is a scrawny kid whose main job is to protect his sister—and to kill anyone who stands in their way. Unfortunately for his opponents, he barely has to lift a finger. Thanks to the implantation of Otsutsuki ancestor Shibai’s DNA, he inherited the Reflection Shinjutsu, repelling all attacks meant for him back to the user. Not only that, but even the mere intent of killing Daemon registers the ability, making Daemon a ridiculously hard opponent to fight. Theoretically, this should make it difficult for even Human God Trees like Jura to fight Daemon, as their quest to attain humanity means having to develop emotions—among which are anger and hate, potential sources of killing intent.
Technique-wise, Daemon is also a skilled Taijutsu user, possessing immense speed, which means Daemon is likely to catch his opponents off guard should he decide to go on the offensive. While Daemon hasn’t had any proper fights where he had to demonstrate his strength, it’s theorized that he is much stronger than Jigen, the unstable host of Isshiki Otsutsuki. Having been implanted with both Scientific Ninja Tools and Shibai Otsutsuki’s DNA, Daemon is expected to have a sturdier physiology capable of inheriting other Shinjutsu, such as levitation.
5
Kawaki
The Fake Uzumaki But The Perfect Weapon
Initially introduced as the brash and aggressive former experiment of Kara involving Kama users, Kawaki eventually warms up to the Uzumaki family, resulting in his fierce loyalty to his adoptive family and his unwavering anger towards the Otsutsukis. This rather odd relationship with Boruto caused Kawaki to “reverse” their fates if it meant protecting Naruto from the growing Otsutsuki threat. And while Kawaki is pegged to be more of an experimental weapon, his aptitude with the Kama is slowly transforming him into a very capable fighter.
Among Kara experiments who received Scientific Ninja Tools, Kawaki uses his transformative powers the most, often turning his hand into gigantic claws and blades. Even before his Ninjutsu training, Kawaki was a skilled fighter capable of absorbing chakra attacks and returning them as blasts from his transformed limbs. As the recipient of the now-dead Isshiki’s Kama, which essentially turned him into part-Otsutsuki, he has access to his Kokugan as well as flight. It’s revealed that Kawaki’s improved body actually had limiters attached to them, which was surprising, as Kawaki can already contend with Claw Grimes with this “limited” setup. Kawaki has currently asked Amado to remove those inhibitors, which should turn him into an even more potent weapon that is rumored to be capable of fighting the likes of Jura.
4
Code
The Designated One To Fulfill The Otsutsuki’s Will
- Debut: Boruto Episode 157
When Isshiki Otsutsuki is about to leave the physical plane after his death at the hands of Kawaki, he entrusts the Otsutsuki’s will and legacy to Code, the family’s fanatical follower. Originally just an Inner of Kama, Code is known for his arrogant streak and his Claw Marks—black bands he could use to travel partially or completely—perfect for teleportation and even surprise attacks. However, Code’s position as a threat in the Boruto series is amplified by Isshiki’s final gift to him before his demise.

Not all Naruto characters get to walk away from a fight with their limbs intact. Here are some examples who lost a body part in one way or another.
This manifests through the White Kama, the mark of Code’s failure as Isshiki’s vessel that would very well be the symbol of his legacy. Although unable to reincarnate into their “original” forms and absorb chakra, Code’s White Kama will give him access to Isshiki’s “full power,” transforming him into an Otsutsuki that will carry out their will and become a divine being himself. The full extent of the White Kama’s powers is unknown, except for the fact that it might turn Code into a being stronger than even Isshiki.
3
Boruto Uzumaki
The Perfect Modern Otsutsuki Vessel
- Debut: Naruto Shippuden Episode 500
While Boruto Uzumaki is a prodigious ninja all on his own, courtesy of his natural talents and strong bloodline, his killing of Momoshiki Otsutsuki and receipt of the Kama permanently changed his life. Not only was Boruto’s compatibility with a Kama so unique that his potential as a Chakra Fruit is particularly intense, but his practical death forced Momoshiki to turn him into a complete Otsutsuki before the villain’s reincarnation. Combined with the mysterious Jogan, and Boruto’s potential to awaken the Byakugan, and Naruto’s son is pretty much an unknown variable.
In Two Blue Vortex, Boruto returns not just freshly trained by Sasuke, but Kashin Koji as well, with new techniques such as his own rendition of the Flying Thunder God technique empowered by Otsutsuki translocation, as well as Rasengan: “Uzuhiko” that uses the planet’s spin against his opponents. Boruto proves to be quite a capable fighter with just three years of training, having dispatched Code’s Ten-Tails-empowered Claw Grimes easily and even posing somewhat of a threat to Jura. With Boruto having just started fully grasping the implications of his new Otsutsuki heritage, there’s a possibility that Boruto, being a human-Otsutsuki variant, could access newfound powers himself.
2
Jura
A Human God Tree Who Desires To Be Human
- Debut: Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4 (no anime debut yet)
After Isshiki Otsutsuki’s defeat at the hands of Naruto, the villain entrusts the Otsutsuki’s true legacy to the fanatical worshipper Code through the White Kama—a tool which he then uses to create law Grimes out of the dormant Ten-Tails that their organization has been keeping in an alternate dimension. When Code was done creating his personal army, what remained of the Ten-Tails coalesced into Jura, the leader of the Human God Trees and a personal incarnation of the Ten-Tails. Whereas other Human God Trees were created from “templates” of other humans, Jura is an alien being personally interested in humanity.
Given his alien nature, Jura is not a force to trifle with, to the point where Boruto has ordered Shikamaru to ensure Konoha doesn’t provoke the him should he decide to visit the Hidden Village. In what little time Jura has spent in fights, he’s demonstrated the ability to sense and track chakra signatures, perform the extremely rare Wood Release, generate Tailed Beast Balls and lasers, and even go toe-to-toe against a modified Kawaki, a White Kara-infused Code, and even a Nine-Tails-empowered Himawari Uzumaki. Jura himself claims he can defeat Naruto and Boruto despite their ascended capabilities.
1
Shibai Otsutsuki
The Grandfather Of Ninjutsu
- Debut: Boruto Chapter 75 (no anime debut yet)
To say that Shibai Otsutsuki is the “grandfather” of Ninjutsu is an insult to his legacy, as his “grand” nature as a god, even to the Otsutsuki themselves, is evidenced by his god-like feats. Thanks to Kama, Shibai has sacrificed countless worlds (and potentially their living beings) just to consistently reincarnate himself—an act that eventually helped him amass god-like power. Shibai’s feats were all called Shinjutsu, and ranged from instantly traversing areas through black bands, seeing through time, reflecting attacks, and even shaping worlds in his own image. Anything else he can conjure, he can do so with his chakra, but with no hand seals, making Shibai technically the “grand” father of all Ninjutsu in the Naruto world.
Genius scientist Amado Sanzu of Kara theorized (correctly, as per Momoshiki) that Shibai had discarded his body to “ascend” to a higher state of being. When Amado found Shibai’s remains, he transferred his DNA to Kara members, of which only a few of them truly activated Shibai’s latent Shinjutsu. And while Shibai has technically “left” the physical plane, there’s no telling whether the Otsutsuki patriarch will decide to return. If he does, there will be very little anyone can do to stop him.
