The Pitt season 1 is almost over, with the highly anticipated finale airing on Thursday April 10th, and fans have enjoyed the character growth and riveting medical cases of the past 14 episodes. In contrast to countless medical dramas, The Pitt season 1 is fascinating because all 15 episodes take place in real time, like the TV series 24. Starring Noah Wyle as main character Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, the series is hilarious one second and terrifying and tragic the next, and there are plenty of cliffhangers and big reveals to go around.
Stephen King is a big fan of The Pitt, and it will be interesting to see how the first season wraps up. As viewers get ready for what’s sure to be a memorable and significant finale, there is one big question: is there going to be a season 2 of The Pitt?

Will The Pitt Season 2 Happen?
On February 14th, 2025, Deadline reported that Max renewed The Pitt for season 2. There’s more good news for fans: according to Deadline, The Pitt season 2 will happen over the Fourth of July weekend, and there will be a time jump of 10 months. Season 2 will also tell a story over 15 hours in the E.R. Deadline also shared that production has started.
The Pitt’s unique format works well as viewers get to see the highs and lows of a shift in a busy and stressful emergency room. Every main character is passionate about their job and saving lives, but they each bring their own baggage and emotions to each medical case, which is fascinating to watch. Some stand-out characters include Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), who is dealing with a challenging moment in her personal life, along with Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif), who has an unexpected reveal near the start of the first season. Dourif is known for playing Nica Pierce/Chucky in the Child’s Play franchise and on the SyFy TV adaptation Chucky, and she plays Cassie with a perfect mix of toughness and vulnerability.
The Pitt season 1 is equally emotional and entertaining as the characters deal with life and death along with a particularly scary event. The series also features more senior doctors mentoring interns and third and fourth year medical students, which emphasizes how overwhelming and anxiety-inducing it can be to work in the E.R.
The Pitt season 2 will likely feature the same moving, fast-paced, and unsettling tone as the first season, and hopefully the main characters will come back, too. Fans want to know what’s going to happen as characters such as Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell), Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez), and Dr. Trinity Santos (Isa Briones) get more experience. The entire cast is strong, including Briones, who starred on Hulu’s Goosebumps season 1. Since there will be a time jump of 10 months, the young interns and students will likely be more confident as they get used to life in the E.R. This could cause some tension as they might disagree with some of the more experienced doctors, which would make for great TV.
Channing Dungey, the Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks Chairman and CEO, said:
“From its powerful stories to its realistic set and unique real-time format, ‘The Pitt’ is truly a masterclass in storytelling — and it’s all due to the talented team of executive producers and crew, and the incredible ensemble cast who truly embody the pace and pressure of a hospital emergency department.”
What Did Noah Wyle Say About The Pitt Season 2?
In an interview with The A.V. Club in February 2025, Noah Wyle talked about the format of The Pitt season 2. While he didn’t share any story details, he did say that the storytelling formula will be the same. Wyle said:
“Well, we joke that we should stay with the format. Otherwise, it looks like we made a mistake. You don’t want to admit defeat. If we kept with a 15-episode structure, there’s something really hand in glove with having it mirror a work day or a work night. “
Max has a great variety of programming, from thrillers like The Flight Attendant to food and cooking shows. The Pitt is the perfect addition to the streaming service since it’s such a unique, creative, and fresh take on the classic hospital drama. Since The Pitt has been one of the most talked about new shows of 2025, it would have been disappointing if it hadn’t gotten another season. Thankfully, fans will be able to see what happens next to Robby and his coworkers.
