For better or worse, the Netflix adaptation of Devil May Cry deviated from the games in several substantial ways.

He still has no idea that he’s half demon, though, and this new adaptation plays with expectations as he is thrown into a war between the underworld and the U.S. government in New York City. Between Dante and the rest of the cast, there are some great lines to love in Netflix’s Devil May Cry.

This list contains spoilers!

“Mythology Exists To Explain Reality.”

Dr. Fisher, Episode One

Dr. Fisher in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

Dr. Fisher is a researcher who is connected to the Darkcom team. He appears in the first episode to brief a council of U.S. government officials, including the President and Vice President, on what could be a demon invasion. When a random politician scoffs at the idea, Dr. Fisher explains how it’s not that weird and how mythology can explain a lot of human history. Of course, there are no demons in reality, but it’s a solid point to showcase that science can always find a logical answer through research.

“I Don’t Think That’s The Guy.”

Mercenary, Episode Two

Mercenaries confronting Enzo in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

In episode two, Darkcom puts together a team of mercenaries to find and bring Dante in for questioning or to at least get his necklace. When the first batch arrives at Dante’s pad, they find Enzo tied up in a chair made to look like Dante, complete with a wig made from a mop. One of the unnamed mercenaries says this line so obviously that it’s hard not to laugh because Enzo looks ridiculous. Enzo, to clarify, is Dante’s broker who sold him out just to save his own hide.

6

“God Bless America!”

White Rabbit, Episode Three

White Rabbit in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

The White Rabbit appears in the first scene of the anime, but he has a bigger debut when he attacks Lady and her Darkcom crew in episode three. After brandishing a rocket launcher and firing at them, he enthusiastically says this line and seemingly means every word.

Netflix Devil May Cry: 8 Strongest Characters In The Show

Of all the powerful characters in the new Devil May Cry series, who stands the strongest?

Anytime a villain explodes something in the name of America, it’s a good time, like a throwback to ’80s and ’90s movie villains. That’s kind of what the Devil May Cry series is all about: bringing back cheesy one-liners and exploding and shooting stuff just because it looks cool.

“Damn, He’s Cool.”

Agni and Rudra, Episode Three

Dante riding a bike in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

Agni and Rudra are part of the White Rabbit’s crew and two of the more jokester villains in season one. Even though they are plainly evil and like to kill, they have a lot of respect for Dante. They know he’s the legendary son of Sparta and are kind of like the audience surrogates who like to gawk at how cool Dante is. They say this line right before Dante smashes them with a motorcycle after a high-speed chase. This isn’t the only time Dante has used a motorcycle as a weapon, though, as it was a major one in Devil May Cry 5.

4

“Oh, S**t!”

Dante, Episode Four

Dante falling in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

Episode four ends with a bang, literally, as a plane explodes with Dante and other passengers in it. After the explosion, everyone can be seen flying around with Dante, hitting the camera and saying this line before things cut to the credits. Most episodes have good cliffhangers to keep viewers engaged in their Netflix accounts, but this might be the most outrageous one in the first season. Dante and the others are, of course, fine, which is resolved in a fun rescue mission in episode five.

3

“Looks Like You Killed The Wrong B***h.”

Lady, Episode Five

Lady in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

Even though Lady gets cornered on more than one occasion, she always finds a way out. One of her most clever ruses happens in episode five when she is pinned down by one of the top demons, Plasma, who can shape-shift.

She convinces Plasma to turn into her so that he can get into Darkcom HQ to steal information for the White Rabbit. She knew another demon, Echidna, was chasing her, and right after Plasma turned into Lady, Echidna appeared to kill him in an instant. This is when the real Lady counters with this line and a cartridge full of bullets. Two birds with one stone.

“God Has Never Asked For Us To Stand Idly By And Await His Kingdom On Earth But To Build It Ourselves.”

Vice President Baines, Episode Eight

Vice President in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

William Baines is the Vice President and head of Darkcom. Even though it’s an organization aimed at helping people, it always seemed like something was amiss with Baines, and it all comes to a head with this speech he gives in episode eight. He tells this to a subordinate, Anders, right before having him shoved out of his helicopter for failing to meet his expectations. Baines takes his belief in god a little too far, thinking of himself more like a soldier in the war against the underworld or maybe even more like an archangel.

“I Am That Storm.”

Vergil, Episode Eight

Vergil in Netflix’s Devil May Cry

If there are two characters that fans love the most in the Devil May Cry series, it has to be the Star, Dante, and his brother, Vergil. Fans didn’t have to wait long until they saw Vergil in episode one, although it’s just a disguise by a demon. While his demon form appears in seven, the real humanoid version of Vergil is saved until the last episode and final scene of season one. Vergil is freeing demons from the clutches of the U.S. military, and he vows to his brethren that a storm is brewing and no one can stop it. Suffice it to say, Vergil will definitely play a big role in season two if it happens.
