Minecraft (2011) Loading Frame
The movie opens with a square frame expanding out, and it’s similar to the Minecraft game released in 2011, where the square frame animation appears when loading up a new world. Once the frame loads up, you meet young Steve who has a yearning for the mines, but unfortunately, he gets chased away because of his young age.
Fast-forward to a few years later when he’s all grown up, he goes back into the mine and finds the Orb of Dominance, which opens a portal to a whole new world called the Overworld. When he arrives, we hear the iconic Minecraft theme song, Calm 1, by Daniel Rosenfeld.

Orb Of Dominance
The Orb Of Dominance is a powerful item from the Minecraft Dungeons 2020 video game, and the Orb has the power to reshape reality, but here’s the twist. In the Minecraft Dungeon game, the Orb Of Dominance has a red colour, while in this movie the orb has a blue colour, which is similar to the beacon from the first Minecraft game.

Before the Minecraft Movie hit cinemas, Valkyrae said that Jason Momoa “mistreated” the crew on set. Now, it looks like her cameo was cut.
As we all know, a beacon is a combination of a nether star, obsidian, and glass, which then forms a tower of light which is seen in the final battle scene. So it looks like the idea behind the Orb and the beacon were combined to create the blue-coloured Orb Of Dominance.

The Seer
The Seer is a Minecraft Dungeon villain that is quite similar to Malgosha the piglin witch, who is the main antagonist in this movie. Malgosha is the ruler of the Nether, which is the remains of an over-exploited world, and it’s filled with mutated piglins who have an obsession with gold.
In Minecraft Dungeons, The Seer is the ruler of the Nether, and she uses the Orb Of Dominance to call upon The Great Hog, which is the exact same scene played by Malgosha in the A Minecraft Movie.

Nintendo World Championship (1989)
Nintendo officially held its first challenge championship in Canada, which eventually led to the creation of the world championship, and Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison was the gaming champion of 1989. He was the champion of the Hunk City Rampage game, and he has a shop that he uses to display his trophies as well as sell some gaming items, like headsets and the infamous Nintendo power glove.
His shop also has a poster reference to the Nintendo World Championship, and he’s about to lose it all. Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison plays a major role in this film, in terms of helping the other characters survive the Overworld, but he’s still living in past glory.

As Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison looks for where to store his items since he’s about to lose his shop, he then goes to a storage auction where he comes across the Orb Of Dominance. During the auction, different YouTube streamers were sighted, like Aphmau, LDShadowLady, Mumbo Jumbo, and DanTDM.

Midport Village
After the gang makes it through the night, Steve teaches them the fundamentals of the Overworld, and they head to Midport village to regroup. The village is full of different characters, like workers, fletchers, wandering traders, farm animals, iron golems, and also Steve’s famous lava chicken shop.
As the gang enters the village, they come across a pig wearing a crown, and Steve refers to him as a legend. This is a reference to the legend, Technoblade, who sadly passed away in June 2022. His YouTube channel logo is a crowned Minecraft pig, and the movie pays tribute to him.

Steve’s Secret Inventory
Steve’s stash has a boatload of weapons like TNT, firework rockets, boots of swiftness, diamond armor, and blades of days, and these are real-life recreations of typical Minecraft weapons. There are some iconic items spotted in the movie, like glistening metals and golden carrots, which are good healing items.
Steve also has a turtle shell helmet that grants limited underwater breathing, healing potions, a fire resistance potion, a potion of swiftness, lava blocks, and a Jack o’lantern. The Jack o’lantern could have been a good item for Hank to use during his faceoff with the Enderman because wearing it allows players to make eye contact without setting them off.
