Getting Started in Suikoden can be a little overwhelming, so this guide will cover some useful things to know and ways to get strong early on.

Now that Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster is out, Konami transitioned to working on refining its classic JRPG compilation. To that end, the Japanese developer-publisher has recently shared an overview of multiple known issues that it’s looking to address, as well as some additional features coming to the remasters. Since all the items listed by the company are planned to be incorporated as part of a single update, the list itself essentially acts as a changelog for the game’s first-ever patch.

First Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster Update Will Address One Big PC Oversight

In terms of changes and quality-of-life additions, the upcoming update will address one big oversight with the PC version of Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster: the inability to close it natively. Right now, PC gamers playing the Steam version of the remaster bundle either need to use the ALT+F4 shortcut or open the Steam overlay (Shift + Tab by default) and then click the “Exit Game” option in the top-left corner in order to close it. The first post-launch patch will also introduce the ability to change the background music playback speed when using the option to play battles at twice the speed.

Other quality-of-life improvements arriving as part of the upcoming update include the ability to disable the sound of footsteps and toggle auto-save. The patch will also refine the Retrieve option in the storage room, providing Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster players with at-glance info on whether a given piece of gear can be equipped and what its effects on the selected unit’s stats will be. Konami also promised to work on some discrepancies between different localizations and fix an issue with healing Runes that causes them to not work as intended if used on the battlefield when there are still empty slots in the party.

The game’s first post-release update is still waiting for a release date, with Konami promising to share it as soon as it’s close to finalizing the patch. All versions of Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster are expected to receive the update simultaneously.
