Summary
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s reported remake/remaster is apparently set to shadow drop this month, according to industry insider Jeff Grubb.
- Grubb recently claimed that he’s been told to expect a shadow drop this month, as Microsoft appears to be giving Oblivion the Ninja Gaiden 2 treatment.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s long-rumored remaster/remake is quite possibly the biggest open secret in the games industry right now, with various insiders having blown the lid on its existence a long time ago. There have been so many teases and hints about the game’s planned release date, including a release this summer, at some point in April, and pretty much everywhere in between.
Now that the anniversary has been and gone, and with not even the smallest hint from Microsoft, fans have started to lose hope that the game actually exists. Thankfully, industry insider Jeff Grubb has attempted to lift spirits by claiming that the Oblivion remake/remaster is going to do a Ninja Gaiden 2 and shadow drop at some point this month.
Don’t Fear, The Oblivion Remake Is Still Coming
In the latest episode of Giant Bomb’s Power Block podcast, Grubb and co-host Emma Fyffe discuss the possibility of a shadow-dropped Oblivion, and what that might look like. It’s possible that Microsoft could simply drop the game in a tweet and let players have at it, or there may be a Developer Direct on the way that we just don’t know about. Either way, Grubb sounds fairly confident it’ll be here before April is over.
I’ve been told it’s gonna shadow drop here at any moment this month.
As for Grubb himself, he’s arguably the most reliable insider out there at the moment, having accurately leaked and predicted a number of announcements. His word probably means a bit more than a random Johnny on Twitter, but it’s still worth keeping expectations low and a pinch of salt handy, as plans can change very quickly in the games industry and Microsoft hasn’t even acknowledged the game’s existence yet.
A shadow drop would make a lot of sense though. We’ve seen in the past the biggest hits Microsoft has had in recent years have been shadow drops, including Ninja Gaiden 2 earlier this year, and Hi-Fi Rush back in 2023. It’s clear that the company loves a big shadow drop to get everyone talking, and an Oblivion remake would undoubtedly be the biggest they’ve ever done.
