While having a Quirk is a requirement for becoming a hero in the world of My Hero Academia, not every protector of society possesses an ability that seems all that helpful or supportive. In fact, several heroes have come to acquire Quirks, which, on the surface, seem like they would be far more fitting for a criminal who could use their self-centered and shady abilities to help them in acting out their evil schemes.

It’s not like heroes can use these kinds of Quirks without going unnoticed either, as it’s been shown numerous times throughout the series that a character can actually face some severe criticism from civilians, heroes, and villains alike for using their Quirks in such a way. While the journey to becoming a hero may have been a little harder for these My Hero Academia characters because of their shady and devilish abilities, their fiery passion for wanting to save and protect those in need saw them achieve their goals, despite the cards they were dealt.

Eraserhead

Shutting Down A Hero’s Quirk In An Instant Would Make Aizawa A Tricky Villain To Pin Down

• First Appearance: Episode 5

While it seems highly unlikely Aizawa would have ever decided to use his Quirk for villainy, if he did end up following a darker path, his personal ability would have made him a nightmare for the heroes to deal with. Just as his hero name implies, Eraserhead is able to prevent a person from using their Quirk so long as he keeps his vision locked on them at all times. Needless to say, shutting down All Might’s One For All or Endeavor’s Hellflame would give Aizawa an easy way to avoid being apprehended, so it’s lucky for the heroes that he’s on their side.

As a Pro Hero, Aizawa tends to take more of a supportive role. He can usually be found using his Quirk from the sidelines to help weaken an enemy by disabling their Quirk, though he’s also not afraid to get his own hands dirty every so often. While a villain could cause an unimaginable amount of chaos with Aizawa’s Quirk, thankfully, the ability fell into the lap of the lazy but lovable Pro Hero instead.

Shihai Kuroiro

Shihai Could Easily Escape A Crime Scene By Merging With Darkness And Making A Getaway

• First Appearance: Episode 16

Being able to merge with darkness itself is a creative ability that can be used in some pretty unique ways, as demonstrated by its user, Shihai, who gets to show the Quirk off during the Joint Training arc. Shihai is able to slip into a shadow in an instant before then pooping up anywhere he likes. So long as he doesn’t become exposed by a bright light, Shihai can hide himself away and make a quick getaway, which would be perfect after committing a heinous crime.

Despite how easy it would be to pursue a life of crime, Shihei focused more on figuring out how his Quirk could be used for the sake of good. While this Quirk does allow Shihai to reach those in need of saving in barely any time at all, it’s still always going to be a little freaky seeing a hero emerge out of a pool of darkness to save the day.

Uwabami

Uwabami’s Snakes Would Be Useful For Seeking Out Vulnerable Victims If The Pro-Hero Ever Turned Evil

• First Appearance: Episode 27

Though Uwabami’s Serpentress Quirk is barely shown in action throughout the series, it is still explained that the fashionable Pro Hero uses her snakes as a way to seek out civilians who are in trouble, along with any nearby villains. During the rescue effort in the final war, Uwabami’s snakes proved useful in leading the heroes towards those who were most injured or buried under ruble, but on the surface, it does also feel like a Quirk that would more likely be used by a villain rather than a hero, and it’s not just because of the vicious snakes popping out from her head.

Villains are always on the prowl for their next victim, so being able to sense where the most vulnerable targets are and if any heroes are nearby to help would make even a simple robbery so much easier to pull off. Despite being far from a villain herself, Uwabami possesses an ability that all those on the wrong side of the law would dream of having for themselves.

Momo Yaoyorozu

“Creation” Is A Simple Quirk That Would Have So Much Chaotic Potential In The Hands Of A Villain

• First Appearance: Episode 5

Momo’s Quirk is, without a doubt, one of the strongest in the series. While it does come with a few heavy drawbacks, including taking a heavy toll on her body after use, the ability to spawn pretty much anything in existence could go a very long way for a villain. Usually, Momo will decide to create heavy weaponry, such as railguns and cannons, to fend off her enemies, though there really is no limit to what she can create, despite bigger items taking a lot longer to craft.

This wouldn’t be too big of a weakness for the average villain, though, since simply being able to make something small like an explosive grenade or smokebomb at a moment’s notice would make it difficult for a hero to even hope of getting close to their target. Though Momo isn’t one of All For One’s main targets, if he did manage to steal her Quirk, it would end up making him even more absurdly powerful than he already is.

Camie Utsushima

Camie Could Have Become A Dangerous Sorceress-Like Villain With Her Illusion Power

• First Appearance: Episode 53

After emitting a strange smoke-like substance from her mouth, Camie will be able to essentially show her opponents whatever she wants them to see. Usually, she will decide to conjure up several visual illusions that can be used as distractions, such as when she creates a copy of Todoroki during the Provisional License Exam to attract the attention of the kids who were a part of the partial test.

It goes without saying, but Camie could get up to all kinds of mischief with this ability if she were a villain. Not only could she create an illusion to frame someone else for a crime, but she could even play mind games on the heroes before they even knew what had hit them. It’s not easy to use such a deceptive Quirk in a way that benefits society, but after a lot of training, Camie has figured out plenty of ways to make it work.

Toru Hagakure

Toru Must Learn How To Use Her Sneaky Abilities In A Way That Contributes To Society

• First Appearance: Episode 5

In most anime, the ability to turn invisible is reserved for a character who is devious and sneaky enough to know how to use it, but Toru is the exception. Though Toru struggles to find useful ways to utilize her Quirk for much of the series, she eventually awakens the true potential of her Quirk, allowing her to refract light itself, which comes in very handy for dealing with a certain traitorous student who uses light beams as a weapon later in the story.

However, while Toru may have decided to dedicate her powers to the sake of heroism and justice, there’s no denying that it’s still an ability fit for a villain. Sneaking around undetected would allow a bad guy to steal to his heart’s content or even set up an assassination plan without anyone noticing a thing. With that being said, Invisibility could have easily become an infamous Quirk associated with villainy if Toru wasn’t around.

Fumikage Tokoyami

The Aesthetic And Eerie Nature Of Fumikage’s Dark Shadow Seems More Suitable For A Villain

• First Appearance: Episode 5

Tokoyashi’s Quirk, Dark Shadow, is pretty simple; it allows him to control a giant shadowy bird-like entity that can grow extremely large and dish out tons of damage when it’s ordered to attack. Considering how creepy this thing looks, especially when fully powered up, it can come across as more frightening to civilians rather than hopeful, but that hasn’t stopped Tokoyashi from honing his ability so that it can be used for defensive purposes.

As seen in the Forest Training Camp arc and in the final war against All For One, Dark Shadow can obliterate its opponents when the sun has gone down, though it can also be a bit harder for Tokoyami to keep control of. Flattening entire cities and terrorizing civilians with fear would be a walk in the park for a villain if they were fortunate enough to get a hold of the Dark Shadow Quirk.

Hitoshi Shinso

Being Able To Manipulate Someone’s Mind Seems Ideal For An Evil Mastermind

• First Appearance: Episode 15

Shinso’s Quirk allows him to creep his influence into an opponent’s brain so that he can assume control of their entire body, forcing them to act against their will. The first time he demonstrates this absurdly strong ability is against Midoriya in the Sports Festival, where he almost wins the fight right from the get-go by forcing Midoriya to walk outside the battle arena. While Shinso showcases the practicality of his Quirk in this fight, he also reveals that it’s been somewhat of a curse, considering it’s a Quirk a villain would be dying to get their hands on, which is why he has faced so much criticism from others.

Initially, Shinso claims that he can only influence a person’s body after he brainwashes them and can not force them to speak, though he does eventually gain this ability much later down the line after some training with Aizawa. Though Shinso does eventually learn how to utilize his Quirk for the sake of enacting justice and protecting civilians, this is only after he was endlessly ridiculed for how dangerous his ability seemed on the surface.
