It will be safe to say that video game adaptations don’t have that much of a good reputation. Most of it stems from flaws like the lack of respect for original source material, massive changes in the storyline, and poor screenwriting. Also, while there are some successful projects under Netflix’s belt, like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Arcane, there are also some video game adaptations that failed to meet the mark like Resident Evil 2022.
If DMC goes on to follow the same path as Castlevania and Arcane, there is a high chance that it will end up more popular than both of these two. All the producers need to do is focus on the factor that makes DMC unique and implement it in the video game adaptation. Hopefully, Devil May Cry will be able to break the video game adaptation curse.
