How To Beat Hismar In The First Berserker: Khazan

The First Berserker: Khazan features many difficult bosses, especially in the endgame. One such boss is Hismar, who can be pretty tough to defeat, mainly because of the boss you just fought before him. Hismar was defeated in the past by Khazan and Ozma, but his corpse will now stand in your way to stop you from getting to Ozma.

This boss may not be easy for you to defeat because you just fought Princess Ilyna. She is a humanoid boss who is pretty fast, so Hismar is her complete opposite.

How To Defeat Hismar

Hismar during The First Berserker: Khazan cutscene.

Hismar is massive; he will be the biggest boss you have faced so far, but don’t get intimidated by his size. If you have had trouble fighting giant bosses, then this fight is likely to be a nightmare for you.

His defense is high, so your attacks may not deal a huge amount of damage to him. Likewise, his stamina is also massive. So, more than difficult, this fight will take more time to complete. That is why you must not lose patience and fight him with a cool mind.

First Phase

This boss has two phases, and both are pretty troublesome. The most trouble you will have in this fight will be actually hitting him. You won’t be able to lock on to his legs or anything else (other than his head); without locking on, this fight will become hell.

His attacks are too wise and slow to be able to see without the lock on. While it is difficult to hit him, there are ways to do so. Do not hit his legs, as the damage will be too low to make a difference. He will sometimes bring his head down, and that is when you perform some combos.

Hismar deals a lot of damage, perhaps more than any of the bosses you have faced so far, so if you are not comfortable with parrying the attacks, dodge them instead.

The attack you need to be careful of in the first phase is the slam. There are actually two variations of this attack.

Hismar can perform this attack from the ground as well as from the air. Both times, his head will be stuck in the ground, giving you an opportunity to perform some combos, dealing massive damage. However, shortly after the slam, he will cause an explosion around his head when trying to get it out of the ground.

The explosion’s timing varies according to the attack’s variation. Hismar will do it faster if he performs the slam from the air. We recommend parrying this attack perfectly, as that would give you more time to do damage. You can also dodge it, but parrying is preferable.

Another attack you need to look out for is the claw attack. This is a complete combo and will take you by surprise. You are likely to die from this, as one wouldn’t expect a boss of Hismar’s size to be quick. He will perform several slams quickly, dealing a lot of damage if connected. There is also a delay in between, and at the end, he will perform a delayed slam.

This combo can be easily parried, but it would require some practice. You can dodge it, too, but that won’t be as rewarding and satisfying as it would parrying the whole combo. However, if you are having a hard time dodging this combo, then you can go below his neck, and you won’t get hit.

We 100 percent recommend learning the rhythm of Hismar’s claw combo, as parrying it is extremely satisfying and, of course, rewarding. After parrying the combo a few times, you will get the rhythm, so try it.

If you parry the last hit perfectly, you will get a massive opportunity to deal damage. As he won’t cause the explosion by taking his head out of the ground, you can do more combos. Do not hesitate to perform as many attacks as you can.

Hismar will also shoot a laser toward you from his mouth. He will do this twice, and you can dodge it by simply running to the left or right. Make sure to close your distance from him so you can get some free damage.

You are likely to break his stance in the first phase, but it is a little tricky to take the riposte. He will be down for a while, so use that time to find the spot. It will be right in front of his head. Go there and damage him as much as possible. Now, before the time runs out, take the riposte for some massive damage.

In the first phase, Hismar will also perform another attack from the sky. He will go into the air and lunge toward you with his claw. Perfectly parry it for a massive window to deal damage. Hismar may also perform his ground combo with this attack, but that will only happen if he quickly does the claw attack from the air.

Second Phase

After losing 50 percent of his health, Hismar will transition into the second phase. The animation will be similar to Midir’s. Hismar will coat himself with Chaos magic, and some explosions will trigger on the ground. Make sure not to get hit by them.

After the transition, Hismar will go into the air and perform a breath attack. You can avoid it by simply running.

In this phase, he will do a grab attack, which is extremely fast. You may not see it coming, but as soon as he reels his face to the side, get ready to dodge.

Another attack you need to be aware of is the laser one. In the first phase, he shot two lasers towards you. He can do the same in this phase, too, but there is another variation now, with purple light.

You can’t outrun this variation of the laser. If you parry the laser, you will get chip damage. So the best way to avoid it is by dodging.

The last attack you need to be aware of is when Hismar goes into the air and starts channeling chaos energy. He will be preparing for a smash attack that you can’t parry. You must dodge it. After channeling the chaos energy, Hismar will leap towards you and then roll on the ground.

After defeating him, you will get 250,163 Lacrima, 17,153 Gold, two Fleshripper Pieces, a Fleshripper Scroll, a Unique Accessory, a Berserk Dragon Horn, and Transmutation Mist.
