Cowboy Bebop fans have been waiting for Lazarus since the series was announced, and it seems that Hideo Kojima is one of them. The creator of Metal Gear Solid recently posted about the series on social media.

Lazarus is a series directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, and it revolves around a “miracle drug” that is later discovered to kill people in three years as one of its side effects. Since the drug was widely used before this information became public, governments and non-governmental institutions are now looking for a cure — and they need to find the scientist who created the drug in order to produce a vaccine.

Hideo Kojima Is Watching Lazarus

Kojima posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he is watching Lazarus on TV. He added that it’s been a long time since he last watched anime on TV; the last time was when Lycoris Recoil was released in 2022.

He felt nostalgic by watching it in real time, instead of just watching on streaming services after the TV broadcast, and he will probably do it more often from now on.

Kojima actually posts about the things he watches quite frequently, but he usually does it on his Japanese account. Updates about the series or movies he’s been watching on his English profile are rarer, which makes sense, as it is probably more natural for him to post in Japanese.

Lazarus: What Is It About And Where To Watch It?

Lazarus is the latest creation by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). It is set in the same universe as Cowboy Bebop — well, actually, every anime created by Watanabe is supposed to take place in the same universe. But Lazarus is even more special because it takes place only a few decades before Bebop, while the other series are set centuries apart.

The series airs in both Japan and in the US — the American audience can watch it every Saturday at midnight ET (that’s Friday at 9 PM PST) on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block. Later, the episodes are added to MAX, and that’s when they reach the rest of the world — but, apparently, dubbed in English at first.

It has been confirmed that the series will have a total of 13 episodes, so it will end around June. There is no information about a potential Season 2, but Watanabe doesn’t usually create sshows that run for too many seasons.

Lazarus features an amazing staff, including John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, who designed the action sequences. Takahiro Ozawa (Mazinger Z Movie: Infinity), Dai Sato (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Tsukasa Kondo (Altered Carbon: Resleeved) wrote the scripts with Watanabe. Studio MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen) is in charge of the animation.

Lazarus is first broadcast on Toonami (Adult Swim), and then added to streaming platforms.
