Mudborne, made by the creator of Apico, and is one of the most charming games about frogs out there. From the common little green guys that populate the game’s starting area to such treasures as the Reeking Sneaker, there’s no shortage of weird frogs for you to collect.

There’s not really an objective way to say which frogs are better in terms of game mechanics. The main objective of the game is biodiversity, and every frog plays an important role in the ecosystem. That being said, some frogs are certainly more versatile or accessible than others, so here’s our favorite freaky little guys.

Dozy Dreamer
The Beginning Of Your Wildest Dreams
- Amplitude: 5
- Nobility: 5
- Odour: 5
- Umbrage: 5
- Ribbit: 5
- Edacity: 5
- Saturation: 5
The Dozy Dreamer is probably going to be the second or third frog you end up unlocking. It has slightly higher base stats than the Common Green, and can be found all over the place in the spirit world. You won’t be able to unlock most of the game’s frogs without it.
Both the Common Green and the Dozy Dreamer are common frogs with high stats, but the Dreamer’s are just a little better. That makes it a better frog for when you want to keep things balanced, but still need a frog with somewhat higher stats for breeding or puzzle-solving.

Dripping Giant
A Big Goopy Wet Boi
- Amplitude: 7
- Nobility: 4
- Odour: 4
- Umbrage: 4
- Ribbit: 4
- Edacity: 4
- Saturation: 7
Sure, most of its other stats are pretty basic, but the Dripping Giant is a great pick for most situations where you need a heavy frog or a wet floor. It has maxed-out Amplitude and Saturation stat, while its other stats are average enough not to affect the environment in other ways.
The best part of the Dripping Giant, however, is that it can be discovered fairly early in the game. That means you’ll be solving puzzles that require a lot of water or a heavy weight in no time, and can continue to use it whenever you encounter these situations again.

Towering Prince
Note: Do Not Kiss The Frog
- Amplitude: 7
- Nobility: 7
- Odour: 7
- Umbrage: 7
- Ribbit: 7
- Edacity: 7
- Saturation: 7
There’s an argument to be made about how the Towering Prince is technically the ‘best’ frog in the game. It has the highest stats of the ‘normal’ frogs. Unless you need a particularly small or stealthy frog, it’s a good go-to for most puzzles.

Power up the machine and use the right frogs to drain the water out of the Pumphouse.
By the time you unlock it, however, you’ve also probably unlocked most of the game’s other frogs. The Towering Prince is also a little lacking in personality compared to most of its cousins.

Frosty Hollow
What’s Cooler Than Being Cool?
- Amplitude: 4
- Nobility: 4
- Odour: 4
- Umbrage: 1
- Ribbit: 4
- Edacity: 7
- Saturation: 4
Many of the game’s most practical frogs can be bred from the Common Green. You’ll learn how to breed weirder, more specialized frogs once you unlock the Dozy Dreamer, but oftentimes the game’s earliest frogs can still be used for puzzles much later.
Such is the case with the Frosty Hollow. It’s not a particularly flashy frog, but its low Umbrage stat allows it to freeze its surroundings. Its high Edacity stat also gives it a massive appetite, so it’s useful for controlling any bug populations that get out of hand.
4
Furious Lurker
This Frog Would Like To See The Manager
- Amplitude: 4
- Nobility: 4
- Odour: 4
- Umbrage: 7
- Ribbit: 4
- Edacity: 7
- Saturation: 4
Everyone gets a little mad at the world sometimes. For the Furious Lurker, that little has become ‘a lot’ and sometimes is all the time. Just take a look at this frog’s impressive Umbrage stat. This is a frog that can literally boil a kettle with nothing but its own rage.
It’s not as if the Furious Lurker just sits around all day, stewing in its pent-up rage. With maxed-out Edacity stat, this frog can also keep the swamp’s local fauna in check to sate its metabolism. We admire this frog’s spirit, especially when everyone has a little bit of the Furious Lurker in them.
3
Bloated Thunder
The Strongest Ribbit In All The Land
- Amplitude: 7
- Nobility: 4
- Odour: 4
- Umbrage: 7
- Ribbit: 7
- Edacity: 7
- Saturation: 4
Mudborne is full of cute and freaky little guys, but sometimes you don’t want a little guy. Sometimes what you need is a big frog with a big personality. If this sounds like you, look no further than the certified chonkster that is the Bloated Thunder.
Need to weigh something down or boil some water? The Bloated Thunder has you covered. Do you want to be power a device with the force of endless screaming? Bloated Thunder has that, too. There’s nothing you can’t accomplish…unless you need a smaller, quieter frog.
2
Imperfect Blabber
Always Second Fiddle
- Amplitude: 6
- Nobility: 6
- Odour: 6
- Umbrage: 6
- Ribbit: 6
- Edacity: 6
- Saturation: 6
No one’s perfect, not even the Towering Prince. The Imperfect Blabber knows this, and is content with its lot in life. Its stats are pretty respectably high, but they’re not maxed out. In order to unlock them, you’ll have to optimize your frog’s stats… but not too much.
You don’t unlock this frog until fairly late in the game, but doing so feels incredibly satisfying. Plus, the art for this freaky little guy is just plain adorable. Its main draw, however, is that it can accomplish much of what the Towering Prince can do with less effort on your part.
1
Stubby Scamp
Sometimes, Worse Is Better
- Amplitude: 1
- Nobility: 1
- Odour: 1
- Umbrage: 1
- Ribbit: 1
- Edacity: 1
- Saturation: 1
In most other games, the idea that a creature could benefit from low stats would be absurd. This isn’t the case in Mudborne: low Amplitude frogs can crawl into small spaces, low Odour frogs can filter air, low Umbrage frogs are living cooling fans, and low Saturation frogs can lower the humidity.
The Stubby Scamp has all of these qualities, making it one of the best options for any situation where less is best. Could the Towering Prince fit into a tiny hole? Could the prince filter the fetid swamp air instead of stinking it up even more? We think not.
