A Minecraft Movie Opening Weekend Met With Misbehaving Fans In Theaters

Summary

  • A Minecraft Movie has been a smash-hit with families and teenagers, despite negative reviews.
  • At the same time, it’s causing massive headaches for movie theater staff as people misbehave during showings.
  • Whether that’s throwing popcorn, yelling or not cleaning up after themselves, it appears that Minecraft moviegoers have been a headache.

By now, it’s no secret that A Minecraft Movie is shaping up to be a bonafide box office success. In spite of its negative reviews, the movie managed to have the biggest opening day ever for a video game movie, besting even The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

There’s not going to be any Sonic-style tweaking this time.

It’s certainly ignited a debate about the difference between critic and audience tastes, as many had pegged the Jack Black-led movie to bomb a la Borderlands. It’s also brought up a discussion about what proper theater etiquette is, as multiple clips circulating online showcase fans behaving horrendously, leaving behind messes and other situations for everyday theater employees.

A Minecraft Movie Has People Acting Up

On social media, if you happen to search for “A Minecraft Movie,” you’ll be met with several videos of fans behaving carelessly and arguably disrespectfully during showings.

In one instance, in a report by Dexerto, police were called and the screening of the movie was temporarily halted in order to escort out some badly behaving teenagers.

It appears that these are not isolated incidents, either. Browsing through both the MovieTheaterEmployees and Regal Unlimited Reddits you’ll find several examples of the aftermath of screenings, complete with tales from those who have to clean up after the moviegoers.

“We had to kick a kid out last night for throwing a drink at someone,” one theater employee wrote. “It’s really sad how many kids have no respect for others, all for a meme.”

“People are rude and disgusting,” a separate employee wrote. “People don’t know how to act in public anymore,” another chimed in.

All of this is to say that cheering and having fun is certainly welcome. After all, how much more fun was Avengers: Endgame when that scene happened with a crowd full of fans around you? But at a certain point, things cross the line, and that’s exactly what’s happening with A Minecraft Movie. Be better and choose kindness.
