The Star Wars franchise is set to get a whole new vibe with one upcoming project, and a recent report suggests that the film production might have set its sights on yet another stellar addition to its already notable star power.

Star Wars has morphed into a primarily streaming-centered franchise since the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, with the poor reception of those films and the success of The Mandalorian on Disney+ sealing the franchise’s fate since. As such, it was a full circle moment when The Mandalorian & Grogu was announced, taking the series to the big screen and returning the franchise to its original medium in the process. Along with this, several theatrical projects coalesced from the mess of potential directions that Lucasfilm had been juggling for a while at that point. While fans still had some misgivings, the return to the big screen was a step in the right direction, and the announcement that Shawn Levy would be helming one of those Star Wars movies further added to the excitement.

There’s no information on what role the star could be taking on in the franchise, but since the project is going in a different direction from the Skywalker saga that’s defined Star Wars up to this point, the odds are it will be an entirely new role along with the rest of the cast.

Jodie Comer Could Be Returning To The Star Wars Franchise

Observant fans might remember that Comer has already had a small role in the franchise, taking on the role of Rey’s mother as part of the bungled change to Rey’s origins in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Since this was a cameo role, and one far removed from Levy’s upcoming project by a lot, it would be easy to recast Comer in a more prominent role for the movie. Considering how early in the film’s casting process this is, there’s a good chance that Comer is set to be the female lead alongside Gosling’s undisclosed male lead. Since prior reports suggest that Gosling’s character is going to be accompanied by a younger character serving as a Jedi Padawan, that could be the position Comer will be filling.

Some fans might know Comer from her impressive lead performance in Alone in the Dark alongside David Harbour, which shows just how much range she has as an actress and her experience carrying a project. While some official confirmation and a role reveal will certainly help shed light on what her new potential role in the franchise will be, there’s no doubt that she’ll do a solid job of it alongside the rest of Levy’s chosen cast.
